American metal band Slipknot have finally unmasked their new drummer, confirming the musician’s identity on social media today.

In one of the worst-kept secrets in modern metal music history, the band revealed that their new drummer is Eloy Casagrande, who played in Sepultura until earlier this year.

Slipknot shared the news about their new drummer on social media, sharing an image of him donning his new mask with the caption, “Slipknot officially welcomes Eloy Casagrande.”

The 33-year-old drummer joined Sepultura in late 2011 and was the youngest person to join the band until Sepultura welcomed his replacement, Greyson Nekrutman, 11 years his junior.

During his time with Sepultura, Casagrande recorded three albums with the group: 2013’s The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart, 2017’s Machine Messiah, and 2020’s Quadra.

Casagrande announced his departure on social media, writing that he needed to leave as he was “thinking about new cycles that will come” as Sepultura prepare to disband after a four-decade career.

Speculation about Casagrande possibly joining Slipknot was circulating for months before today’s confirmation.

The rumour mill started churning in November after the Iowa metallers sacked drummer Jay Weinberg, who was “heartbroken and blindsided” by the band’s decision. Weinberg has since joined Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves.

Casagrande’s name was consistently mentioned as a possible replacement. He’s particularly popular among fans because he covered Slipknot on his YouTube channel before officially joining the band.

After Sepultura announced their impending disbandment in December, speculation around Casagrande’s career increased. When Sepultura revealed that Casagrande had left to “pursue a career in another project,” fans didn’t take long to connect the dots.

Slipknot played their first show with Casagrande last Thursday (25 April). The intimate throwback set took place at Pappy & Harriet's Palace in Pioneertown, California, with the band starting their 25th anniversary celebrations early. They played their second show with Casagrande at the Las Vegas metal festival, Sick New World, two days later (27 April).

You can watch footage of the band performing with Casagrande below.

In March, Slipknot confirmed that they would celebrate their 25th anniversary by headlining Knotfest Australia in 2025.
