Man O War! Can't lose...
It seems everyone around here is frothing on the old Soundwave announcement. Good times! Junior weightlifting prodigy and KYS big wig Jared ‘The Hebrew Hammer’ Heilborn recently sent out an email asking for us bloggers to write about this soundwave festival. I immediately replied and said mate… are you sure you want me to do this? His response was FAITH NO MORE Viking! The man raised a good point.
Straight off the bat, I will not be attending soundwave. To be totally honest there are two bands on that line-up that tickle my fancy… Faith No More and Jane’s Addiction. The rest I have never heard of, think they are shithouse, or have seen a bunch of times before and couldn’t care less if they were back in Australia. I guess this festival is just not my thing and I could think of a million other things I would rather do with my time than spend it surrounded by a bunch of jokers (hello generalisation) at this rubbish event. Anyway, the mighty Faith No More are back and I’m pretty stoked about it. They’re band I really do enjoy and grew up listening to. Probably the number one band of my teenage years to be honest. Here’s hoping they do some kind of sideshow. Surely! As for Jane’s Addiction- any band than makes me want to get nude and dance is good in my books. Hopefully I manage to get along to a sideshow of theirs as well. So there it is… my two cents on the Soundwave Festival.
Festival season is well and truly on the way. Once again the Aussie summer will be flooded with festivals, there’s pretty much one on somewhere every bloody weekend. Some good, some bad. There are three 'fests' that I will most definitely attend this summer… Meredith (best festival in the country by a mile), Stereosonic (rug cutting central) and Pyramid Rock for new years. Pending the line-up you can probably throw ye old faithful Big Day Out into the mix as well. Can’t wait for summer! Short shorts and visors… get your disco on!.
There’s been some pretty decent new music out lately. Well I think it’s decent anyway. The new Kisschasy record ‘Seizures’ is a ripper pop rock release and probably the best work yet from the lads. It’s in stores today so do yourself a favor and get your hands on a copy. The Bloody Beetroots have just dropped there electro punk bomb called ‘Romborama’ and it’s crazy good. Can’t wait to catch these guys again. One of the best live acts I’ve ever seen… it’s just chaos. Mariachi El Bronx (The Bronx) finally release there self titled number. I love what I’ve heard so far and can’t wait to see them live. The Bronx rule. Calvin Harris is a lord and is about to release his new LP titled ‘Ready For The Weekend’. From all reports this record will get dance floors shaking and if the first single is anything to go buy I’m going to froth on it. Harris is actually a wizard. Check out this youtube clip where Harris uses a ‘human synth’ to recreate his new single. Good times! A few tracks from Every Time I Die’s newy have caught my attention in the last week or two. Pretty keen for the album to come out. Lets face it… anything this band does is gold.
Anyway that’s all I’ve got for now. Hope everyone has a good weekend. Carn’ the doggies, go fishing, and put some chili plants in your garden.
God bless ya!

Local Bands Part 1
Its been a long time since a band grabbed my attention right away with just listening to a small sample of one track. Chelsea Smile oozes an award winning formula of metal and hardcore that has you head banging intensely right up to the chorus, which is where you feel compelled to belt your lungs out in harmony with them. Being barely a year old the band has already caused quite a stir. Below is some information on the bands history and what's coming up for them in the near future.
Sydney has been renowned for some of the hottest new talent in the metal and hardcore scene and Chelsea Smile is no exception. Wanting to take their music in a more technical and solid direction Chelsea Smile rose out of the ashes of a former generic band. Having recorded their first track, “Walking On Thin Ice”, in October last year it has gone on to become one of their most popular songs. In just its first week it racked up 10,000 plays and by the time it hit the three month mark it had over 80,000 plays from people worldwide. Refusing to rest on their laurels Chelsea Smile directed their efforts at making a name for themselves in the first half of 2009 and their efforts quickly paid off with a strong local following gathering behind them.
Having recently completed a 15 date tour with Resist The Thought Chelsea Smile has made a name for themselves across Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane. For such a young band they’ve accomplished a great deal through their dedication and hard work but they’ve got even bigger accomplishments looming on their horizon this year that will be add to their quickly growing collection.
Due to the buzz that Chelsea Smile has caused they have been given a supporting slot for UK based metal band Architects, who are currently on tour with Parkway Drive and August Burns Red, by Resist Records. They’ll be playing at Hermanns Bar on the 23rd of August.
The band has no time to rest once they’re done supporting Architects as September is set to be a busy month for Chelsea Smile. Their debut EP "An Awakening For The Misguided" is slated for a mid September release and they have shows lined up every weekend across Sydney until late September. Even amidst this busy schedule Chelsea Smile is writing new material that’ll be focusing on a solid hardcore edge without the tech influences.
When asked about touring and their upcoming ep drummer Glenn has this to say…
“No matter what the obstacle, working together is the way to overcome every problem. To see and be around the same people for months straight day in day out isn’t an easy thing to do but so long as you know what we’ve achieved was originally built on friendship you realize how far you’ve come, not only as a band but as people as well. In regards to the ep it isn’t about making something that bests everything else or to make something legendary or groundbreaking, but to make technically solid metalcore that we all love. We just want nothing more than people enjoying it.”
Very few bands can match the strides that Chelsea Smile is taking and if you haven’t caught up with them yet you better hit up their myspace for a full listing of all their upcoming shows.
Chelsea Smile is…
Jarrod – Vocals
Neil – Guitar
Matt – Guitar/vocals
Glenn – Drums
Jordy - Bass

Trend Following AHOY
Greetings KYS and might i apologize for my extended shit and lazy absence, with in no way at all a good excuse, if anyone would like to think of one for me i can add to this to make me look like less of a slacker it would be greatly appreciated. WELL WELL WELL So among basically everything that has happened since i last blogged, Soundwave is definitely up there with the human interest at the moment, so why dont i use some of my marketing tactics and grab my audiences attention by talking about it first, oh on that note can you tell i have actually been listening at tafe? So the first thing that popped to mind the moment it hit midnight last thursday night was goddamn....i hope that Wilhelm rumour was true and look at that, one of my top 3 bands and there they were, middle of the lineup staring me in the face bascally waving HAI... FUCKING ACE! [Jenkins please stay away from the front of the pit during] Apart from that, there are various stand out's to me at the moment, bands that i would like to see but im not too fussed, time fillers between the others, and bands i cant wait for, lets start from the top: *hem hem* Faith No More: Really only heard them a few time to be completely honest with you, but after the announcement and a few more listens, its definitely something im keen for. AFI: Never seen but it brings back the younger days Paramore, TBS, Alexisonfire, TGUK, Wilhelm, Gallows, FYS, SDRE: No explanation needed really, arm in arm sing alongs with good people will be a main component to these bands The Weakerthans and Rolo Tomassi: Thankfully i have a brilliant friend in fellow blogger and local mosh gazelle Brad, whom introduced me to these bands and i became no less than stoked Comeback Kid: Been one of my favourite bands for years now and due to reasons i cant even remember, i have never seen them, Mel you dickhead, so needless to say i will lose my shit. Im sure i have missed heaps, as im quite chilly right now and thinking more about going to press that heater button on rather than how psyched i am. Have decided to also plan a Brisbane soundwave trip, with hopefully/definately the addition of a little dreamworld date, and maybe a nice tan? In short, ill update you on the rest of my ventures since we last talked, La Dispute-Irenes Warehouse.... FML epic, The Gun Runners album....roughly its already a pants party, Best arthouse lineup in a while- The Omen, Stand Defiant, Mindset, Gun Runners, Charging North=Bad hangover, Costume Partys... goddamn, Trying to push through the end of tafe whilst fingers crossing an internship, delays on CD project due to artist being coma-tised by a redback- Get Well Soon Joel! Oh and the weekly 7.45am Saturday morning work wake-up.... *sigh* So i'd say you've heard enough of my boring rants, and goddamn it Sir Marvel and Luke stole my picture ideas, im just gonna leave you with a lazy ass cat, gives you an idea of my absence. Signing off with hopefully a far more interesting blog on the way! xx Mel
