I Sold My Soul To The Open Road...

What up KYS?
It's been some time since my last blog and for that i apologise, but i do promise these ramblings will be more frequent from now on.

Anyways, the big news right now that has everyone talking is the travelling circus known as Soundwave..
A festival that once started on a smaller scale, residing in Perth one day a year has now turned into one of the powerhouses on the summer festival calendar!
2010 will be no exception either as Soundwave has pulled together a line-up that has everyone losing their minds.. And rightfully so.
I'm going to take the time in this blog to run through the bands that make the front of my jeans stretch and my mind explode..

AFI - These guys have been and always will be one of my favourite bands, seeing them 2 days in a row at The Hi Fi Bar on that first tour was amazing, I'm sure they are going to kick ass and take names in Australia once again.
Crash Love is out 29th of September.

Paramore - Just a fun pop punk band full of sing-a-longs. I predict they will be the NFG of Soundwave 2010, good friends chucking a bit of a mosh together..
Brand New Eyes is our 29th of September

Faith No More - Self explanatory right?! In the past few years we have seen multiple Mike Patton related bands visit our shores, now the real deal is back and ready for action!

Taking Back Sunday - These guys still put on a rad show, make damn sure you tell all your friends to check them out! (seewhatididthurrr?)

Sunny Day Real Estate - Honestly, who thought Sunny Day would ever make it to Australia? Fingers crossed these pioneers play a huge selection from 'Diary'.

The Get Up Kids - What really needs to be said about this band other than they are phenomenal?! I was lucky enough to see them about 4 months ago at a festival in Europe.. All i can say is be very very VERY excited..
The Get Up Kids really are something to write home about!

A Day To Remember - DISRESPECT YOUR SURROUNDINGS!! Fkn m0sh.

Isis - I am still yet to see Isis in a live setting, Panopticon is a phenomenal record and all the live footage i have seen looks incredible.
I hope these guys are playing as the sun is setting!

Gallows
- I was pretty ruined when i found out Gallows were cancelling their Australian tour that was scheduled for this September, having seen these guys at Taste Of Chaos a few years ago i had been itching for another dose of the pissed off punk rock that these angry men produce. Here it is!!
The Black Flag of our generation..

A Wilhelm Scream - Incredible band, shred tastic, guitarmageddon, guitarbonara, etc etc. Just go watch them ok?!

The Weakerthans
- I am actually speechless about this one, i never ever though i would get to see The Weakerthans..
One of my favourite bands ever, John K Sampson (ex Propagandhi) is an absolute poet.. This will be 100% brilliant..
If you haven't already given this band a go then i suggest you go out and purchase the records 'Reconstruction Site' & 'Left and Leaving'.

Comeback Kid - Always put on a great live show, kids will headwalk.

Four Year Strong - Beards Ahoy! So keen for a mid afternoon pop punk session with these lads, expect to hear some 90's covers! Shine up your wallet chain and throw on the airwalks people.

Rolo Tomassi - These guys have been a recent addition to my collection, words cannot really describe the sound or vibe this band gives off, suss them out!
www.myspace.com/rolotomassi

Baroness - Out of the bands I'm keen to see, Baroness is the one i am least familiar with, but i have heard good things, plus if i don't watch them, my pal Dizz will prob spin kick me through a window or something!

RX Bandits - OH SHIIIIT! Yet another band i never thought I'd get to see live.. RX Bandits are rad and their new record Mandala is absolutely stellar!
The 16 yea old in me is skankin' all over the place!

So there it is, that's my wrap up of the Soundwave lineup so far, given how insane the lineup is, i'll be getting my travel on to as many Soundwaves and Sidewaves as possible!

A massive shout out to the whole Soundwave crew for putting on this amazing festival.  especially the people behind the brilliant website which can be found here:

So unless you have been living under a rock for the last few days, you would have noticed that the Soundwave Festival has announced their line up for 2010. These are the bands I will be watching.

AFI - Even though Decemberunderground wasn't my favourite album by them, I will still be watching them to hear some of the classics from the back catalogue. Expecting a huge set from them.

Paramore - Paramore are the band everyone listens to but doesn't admit they like them. Band is so catchy, keen to hear some tunes from the new album.

Alexisonfire - For some reason I have never seen this band live. Looks like I will be breaking my AOF virginity at this festival.

Taking Back Sunday - I haven't listened to the new album at all, but I like some of their older material. Will be good to hear it again.

Sunny Day Real Estate - One of the surprise additions on the line up. Looking forward to hearing them belt out a few tunes.

The Get Up Kids - They are a band I thought I'd never see. Something To Write Home About is one of my favourite albums of all time, so I am really excited to see this band play.

All Time Low - They put on a good show in June on the Take Action tour. Will be good to seem them again now the new album is out.

Gallows - I've heard this band is amazing at festivals, so I have high hopes for their set. I hope the singer is angrier than last time he was here.

A Wilhelm Scream - I missed their last tour here due to me being a dickhead, so I will make sure to see them this time around.

Comeback Kid - Wake The Dead, enough said..

Four Year Strong - This band was great live last year, looking forward to seeing them play some 90's hits.

Baroness - I have only started listening to this band recently. I am impressed with what I've heard, I'll make sure I check them out at Soundwave.

Band's I am hoping will get added to the festival:

Brand New
Set Your Goals
Crime In Stereo
Fireworks
Hatebreed
Shai Hulud
Dan Yemin spoken word set
Charm Offensive

Soundwave: superior. Constructicons: inferior.

Greetings fellow members of the legion of doom and welcome to one of my shorter rants.  Just a quick one today to comment on my favourite Decepticon.... Soundwave.   Soundwave was a Decepticon Communications Officer that lived to serve Megatron with complete loyalty and no ambitions of usurping him (Unlike that shifty Starscream...the saucy little bitch).  His alternate mode was that of a Microcasette player that stored Decepticon spy cassettes.  These included Ravage, Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, Ratbat, Rumble (My personal favourite), Frenzy, Slugfest, Overkill, Squawktalk, and Beastbox.  In the generation 1 series of transformers he was voiced by the legendary Frank Welker whose voice was heavily modulated to achieve Soundwave's distinctive, metallic monotone.  In the latest film, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Soundwave was repeatedly beaten and raped by a large slug like creature called Mr. Bay.  Gone was his legendary Boombox form that we all loved and replaced by a large boring satellite that did nothing but hover above earth for that entire film all while two disgusting racial stereotypes called Skids and Mudflap ate up all his screen time with their gold teeth, monkey built proportions and inability to fucking read!  In a recent study Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School it was officially declared that anyone who liked Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen could qualify for a Disabled Living Allowance as they are clearly fucking retarded.

But fortunately for Soundwave he regained some credibility by having a festival named after him....a festival where A Wilhelm Scream play....and I’m fucking stoked.  They’ll most likely do a sideshow that doesn’t involve Decepticons but if you truly love the ol Boombox you will get down there and show support as “Cries and screams are music to his ears”, (That was an extremely nerdy obscure Transformers quote for all of you playing at home).  Festival wise though, it has been a long time since I have considered going to one of these things in Oz as it usually means I end up sitting through The Living End for the nine billionth time.  But I’m excited to be excited for this as it reminds me of my carefree youthful, festival days where I would desperately try to sneak booze through the gates (Sigh...it used to be so much easier.  I recommend the Ice vest full of Margarita.  Works for me).  Most of all, (As previously stated) I am excited for the return of the A Wilhelm Scream.  The last time I saw them they blew my proverbial socks off and I am looking forward to being naked in the foot department once more.  And as much as it may destroy some of my street cred...I (cough)...would maybe...kinda...like to see...My Chemical Romance....  Ahh fuck ya all!!!  I liked the Black Parade but that could be all the shameless Queen-ness to it...and also as Cam said...bring on the pyro.   Also seeing as my brothers from Hertfordshire (Gallows) have decided not to do the side show thing, I will have to see if that angry ginger bastard can project his anger over a large sea of Decepticon loving festival fans.  And I’m sure they will.  I might follow the sea of black leather to see the heaviness of Meshuggah as well.

But for me...that’s about it.  I have seen Reel Big Fish twice before and thought they were fucking rubbish.  I would have loved to have seen Faith No More when I was 14 but now...couldn’t give a shit.  Janes Addiction can get fucked.  Escape the Fate can get mega fucked.  And Paramore can suck it...take that whatever way you want.

So hope to see you there...I’ll be the drunk guy in a Decepticons t-shirt singing Wilhelm.

Live like a legend and die like an asshole.

Fuck Paul McDermott

Regardless of the hate and whinging that this fest appears to generate, Soundwave has once again delievered a few gems.  Bands im looking forward to, be it to sling crude comments or generate a drunken circle pit.

Whitechapel - Missed last tour due to how expensive it was.  Keen to watch weirdos do that deathcore owl thing.

Four Year Strong - Destroyed fowlers last year and will allow crew to see them who otherwise can't be fucked

Comeback kid - Candian Hardcore gurus, whats not to like

Devil Wears Prada - Fuck the haters, new album is full of thrashy goodness

Emarosa - One of the select non dick hole rise bands

A Wilhelm Scream - Missed last tour so super keen to see how the new material travels

A Day To Remember - Obvious reasons, recently failed to make it on Sweat fest tour

Meshuggah - Will throw up do to mental time signatures and uuber heaviness

AFI - Stoked on all records, apparently the new gear is a lot faster and has tons of Woahs.  You beauty

Bands i wouldn't mind seeing added to the list, that will not happen but its nice to dream..

Darkest Hour
Misery Signals
Between The Buried and Me

Should be a great hot adelaide day.  Hopefully i don't hit the turps to early like this year and be fingered by 4 in the arv

No doubt everyone is talking about how amazing next year's line-up is, so here's my two cents/who I'm the most stoked to see:

Faith No More - one of the greatest bands of the last few decades. Even if you're not a fan you should come along and witness a piece of musical history.

My Chemical Romance - say what you want about the music, band can put on one hell of a show. BRING ON THE PYRO

AFI - their live show is legendary, their back catalogue is practically flawless. What more could you want?!

Paramore - if you claim to not enjoy their sugary pop hits you're either a liar or a dickhead. Either way, I'm keen

Alexisonfire - this band has never played a bad set in my opinion. Their first show in Melbourne was on a 40 degree day @ The Espy and it still stands out as one of my favourite live experiences.

Sunny Day Real Estate - before guyliner and shit hair was synonymous with emo, these guys gave the genre and its unfortunate name some credibility. Don't miss them

The Get Up Kids - one of my favourite bands will be here celebrating the 10 year anniversary of their seminal record, "Something To Write Home About". On course to be one of the highlights of the fest!

Meshuggah - heaviest band I've ever seen. Period.

All Time Low - recent visitors to our shores on the Take Action Tour, these guys are water-tight live and good dudes to boot. Expect large amounts of pogo.

A Day To Remember - if you're on this site you probably own their awesome "Homesick" record. If you missed them last year with Parkway Drive, don't make the same mistake again. DADADADA DADA...

Clutch - southern rock legends. Smoke out and rock out

Isis - another of my all time favourite bands on this mammoth bill. If you don't own the classic Oceanic you're probably a fuckwit.

Gallows - best thing to come out of the UK since Maiden. Angry, ginger and sure to impress

A Wilhelm Scream - fast, technically precise and enjoy a drink or two. Strung Out for a new generation.

Emarosa - helium vocals and delay pedals ahoy!

The Weakerthans - great band. More stoked because my good friend Brad will be over the moon.

Anvil - the stars of the greatest rockumentary since Spinal Tap. Cannot wait to see Lips & co in action

Four Year Strong - better beards than you and then can rock a Third Eye Blind cover like no-one's business.

Baroness - John Dyer Baizley has done the art for most of your favourite bands. Return the favour by watching his own musical creation
