We Will All Sing The Same Song

15.07.2009 | allshallperish | 6 COMMENTS

Hark! Long time no blog town. For the lack of material to have a decent rant I haven’t updated this in a few weeks. Not that this passage of bullshit will be better, I’ve just had time to ponder the universe and the mechanisms around which it operates while walking around listening to Michael Jackson at work.

The weekend just gone I was lucky enough to head to the fine state of NSW to play a run of shows with Wish for Wings and Buried in Verona. Any fellow traveler knows that the trip between Adelaide in Sydney is nothing short of a cunt. There’s nothing to look at bar salt bush and dirt. Awesome.

However, it does give the mind a chance to think and discuss all things musical en route. I managed to pick up Shai Hulud’s “A comprehensive Retrospect..” for dirt cheap prior to leaving my beloved state and was stoked to find a thorough documentation of how the band started and the history behind each track. It’s amazing to see this band still punishing, keeping the same purpose after 15 years and the integrity matt fox has kept since the bands inception.

Their work ethic boggled my mind quite a bit, and considering most bands now have a myspace and flashy promo shots to go with it before actually writing a single riff it was refreshing to see it is possible to get music heard based on an idea as opposed to writing a shit single and aiming for the charts ala Sway Sway Baby Cool.

Entourage is fucking back baby. Monday nights are cool again kids. The first half of season 5 lost me for a while there but it picked up again towards the end. I'm very glad they ditched this whole Medellín thing. It was dragging so bad and was doing my fucking head in.

Prior to that, Vince hadn't made a fucking movie for about 3 years. I like it when they all have shit going on. It was sick when Drama and Turtle both had their own careers (kind of) going. I like seeing Drama succeed. I'm sick of this shit about Turtle being the best character. As if anyone comes even close to the most washed up dude in the show (and in real life) Johnny Drama.

Prediction: Vince is involved in a serious car accident whilst filming the Enzo Ferrari film. Just a thought.

New Set Your Goals album is pretty good. Who the fuck let Hayley Williams "rap" on it though? It's the whitest thing I have ever heard.

I sign the lease for my new house on Friday. It's right near the water in a very nice area. But more importantly, it's about 50 meters from Nandos. Im thinking about applying for a job there so I don't have to walk so far to eat it all the time.

Good times. Good times.

Wellity Wellity Wellity!!!

Andothemando finally has a blog. To be here with industry heavyweights and all round swell dudes, plus the recent appreciation thread made by scene d00d and reality TV sellout Michael Crafter and I guess this is the height of internet.

Kudos Ando, Kudos.

I will use this blog to ramble and payout anyone who happens to annoy me on the forums, if you expect music related ramblings, don't. Unless you want to hear about Sick of It All in which case Iam happy to tell you why you should think they are the greatest band ever.

This blog isn't for your entertainment, it is for mine. If you don't like it then I'm sorry that you have plebs taste. Go drink good and eat Bega with kyliestar (Tiprat)

There has been two (2) major points for me on the internet lately, the first of which is drink driving.

If you drink drive, you are a fuckwit of the highest order. There is NO time when this is acceptbale you pieces of shit, and there is NO justification for it. "Oh but he is a good guy and his dad is a blah blah blah" fuck off pals. He is a deadshit, arseface fucking moran. Plain and simple.

The second is of course everyones shock that Insurance Heavyweight Andothemando has tendered his resignation. This will be my farewell to the city of mediocrity, Adelaide.

What can I say about Adelaide, apart from the fact that it is mediocre. If I was trying to explain Adelaide to a world war veteran, I would call it Switzerland. It's neutral. There is nothing awesome about it and there is nothing offensive about it. It's just there, I can't wait to get my awesome arse back to Sydney. I've met some swell people here, but I've also met some of the most moronic people to ever grace the planet.

I'm planning an epic roadtrip from adelaide to melbs, and then melbs to Sydney. Taking my time and seeing some of the coutry side. The Great Ocean road is calling, as is many of the awesome wineries on the way. I'm thinking about doing some overseas travelling before getting another job, but to be honest I will probably just go to the casino and put alllllllll my cash on red. Money well spent IMO.

That will do for this first installment, as there are heads that need checking and hearts that need breaking.

Suck my arse pals, enjoy.

Andothemando.

P.S I was going to include n00dz here, but EL PRESIDENTE J-money has banned me from that, so here is a photo of me in drag - enjoy.

Mid Year Report

01.07.2009 | maddo | 3 COMMENTS

To coincide with Stu Harvey revealing the Short Fast Loud mid year report tonight I thought I would post my list of the best releases of 2009 so far.

If you haven't heard the band, check them out on myspace and see what you think.

Feel free to post your list or tell me why you think mine sucks.

Alexisonfire - Old Crows/Young Cardinals - Another great release from a great band. Haven't decided whether I rate it more than Crisis yet, but it is still a great album

All Time Low - Nothing Personal - You either love this band or absolutely hate them. I happen to be one of the people that love them. Another album from them that is catchy as swine flu at the moment.

Break Even - The Bright Side - This album is incredible. The album is so passionate and emotional. Plus the artwork is amazing. Definitely check this band out live on the Drunk & Disorderly Tour if you get the chance.

A Death In The Family
- Small Town Stories - This album is probably the best Australian punk release of this year (you tell me otherwise). The band has just completed a US tour with The Gaslight Anthem and are set to tour with Samiam here later in the year. From what I have heard the band is great live so go and check them out.

Earth Crisis
- To The Death - Vegan mosh metal legends are back. To The Death is a return to form for the band, nothing along the lines of Slither.

Fireworks
- All I Have To Offer Is My Own Confusion - Detroit has to be one of the catchiest songs of 2009. If you love bands like New Found Glory and Set Your Goals, this band will be right down your alley.

Hopeless
- Dear World - Debut album from Melbourne hardcore band featuring ex members of Bear Trap and Skan from porn. One of the strongest Australian hardcore releases of 2009. Go and see them on the Burning Up Winter tour with Mary Jane Kelly and Dropsaw.

Iron Mind
- The Sun Has Set - My favourite Australian hardcore band at the moment. Everything about this EP rules. The riffs are hard, the vocals are great and the EP artwork is really good. I can’t wait to see this band at Hardcore 2009.

A Loss For Words
- The Kid's Can't Lose - Another strong pop punk release of 2009. The band has released this album themselves and it rules. Stamp Of Approval is one of my most played tracks this year.

New Found Glory - Not Without A Fight - This album marks a return to form for New Found Glory. Although Coming Home wasn't a bad album, Not Without A Fight brings back the similar sound to the band's classic album Sticks And Stones which is a great thing.

Paint It Black - Amnesia - Dan Yemin rules! Amnesia is the first 7" released of a few to come later in the year. It picks up where New Lexicon left off and it is great. I am looking forward to hearing the next 7".

Purple Mercy - Self Titled - Ex members of Life Long Tragedy decided they wanted to smoke bongs instead of playing hardcore anymore. This album is the result of that.

Reign Supreme - Testing The Limits Of Infinite - I have been waiting for this album to come out since I heard the band's American Violence EP last year. The wait was worth it. This album is fantastic. Look out for an interview with them on here soon.

Shook Ones - The Unquotable A.M.H - Shook Ones have released another album of Lifetime and Kid Dynamite worship. You can't go wrong with that!

Title Fight - The Last Thing You Forget - This is would have to be my favourite release of 2009 so far. The Last Thing You Forget contains four new songs, the band's Kingston 7" and their split with The Erection Kids. I encourage you to download this release, because if you buy it from Run For Cover, you are more than likely to never see it.

Transit - Stay Home - This EP rules, not a bad track on it. For fans of older Crime In Stereo.

Now to some records that are still to be released this year that I am looking forward to hearing. If I have left any out that you are looking forward to, make sure you tell me!

Blkout!
- Total Depravity
Dead Swans - Sleepwalkers
Every Time I Die - New Junk Aesthetic
Polar Bear Club - Chasing Hamburg
Rise And Fall - Our Circle Is Vicious
Ruiner - Hell Is Empty
Set Your Goals - This Will Be The Death Of Us
Trapped Under Ice - Secrets Of The World

Good Evening All!

So... first let me give deep apologies to all of you for my lack of blogging, i have disappointed myself, and let you all down.

But ill back this up with reasons, over the past couple of weeks i have found myself in the end of Semester 1 for tafe, 1 Semester more and im out on my ass! At the end of this, i had about 4 major projects due, including my CD project which i have spoken about in previous blogs. Unfortunately due to a few complications, the CD is not yet done BUT WILL BE, once we have the artwork all finished, its off to pressing and we'll have a sweet result which you all better buy!

I held one final 'fundraising gig', we ended up losing $50 the whole night, reason? Well booking bands isnt fun, bands pull out last minute, other things complicate, but i would like to give a massive shout out to Kill The Matador, who are fucking rad and the best sports. As the show basically failed, self esteem was crushed, and we headed to Next to see Carpathian and receive free beers from an amazing KYS user (<3) all night.

I really dont have too much interesting to talk about at this point to be quite frank, my past week was a bludge, rent week=literally no money, especially when your phone bill is payed the same week, so i lived on 2 min noodles and free bread from work, note to all... NEVER get that low in money, cause owing people money after it is even worse.

1 thing i will say, Melbourne Zoo... Fkn ace, i could literally stand and watch animals all day, Sunday was awesome because of this. I got to stand on the other side of a window a massive gorilla was eating next to on the other side, just wanted to hug it, watched elephants inhale apples, meerkats posing, barrels of monkeys, and Jenkins even got a girlfriend!

I also experienced the worst hotdog i have had in my life.

I also got to go to the filming of Millionaire Hotseat with well, with ma bitch Carla :D, audience members that go there can literally die brutal deaths, nothing worse than inbetween shoots people get time to talk to Eddie, and all they ask is football questions, it bought on thoughts of self harm hearing that over and over. Otherwise, prretttyy sweet day.

Ill write more adventures when i have some better AND hopefully my next blog will contain artwork from the CD Project, again, check it out HERE

Im outty, going to play more AOE3 HHHHEEELLLZZ YEAH xx
On repeat atm? New SYG (htfu album)
La Dispute (thanks CONNOR)
Shook Ones
The Gifthorse
