Show us yer swine...

Swine Flu. I’m sick of hearing about it. Is there nothing else going on in the world for the news to report on? From what I’ve read this strain of flu isn’t much worse than regular influenza. The media has blown it up like it’s the plague and it’s flipping out every germ freak and overprotective mother in the country. I’m no doctor but in my opinion it has just been one giant over reaction. We even had a “swine flu” scare at work late last week with some dude having a headache who had been in contact with his sister whose partners’ sisters’ partner had contracted the virus. The HR department here lost their shit and anyone with a runny nose or headache was sent home and their work area was quarantined and disinfected. Some broad up in finance is even rockin a face mask nowdays. Jesus!

Speaking of work, things have been pretty busy of late. I was up in QLD not long ago to launch the new BMW Z4 and the Efficient Dynamics campaign. Event set up went well and I didn’t have to lose my shit and too much. The sun was shining and I pretty much just worked on my tan. Had one of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten at a menu tasting for a dinner function. It’s a tough job having to sample such fine food and wine. The menu I chose went down a treat. On the second day of the event the heavens opened and I’ve dead set never seen so much rain fall in my life. The place was literally underwater in a few hours. You always plan for wet weather conditions at events but you could never plan for what we saw. I was waist deep in water at times which was kinda fun but the novelty soon wore off when I suffered severe chaffing to the backs of my legs from wearing gumboots. It was so bad that the paramedic on site (have to have a paramedic at an event where cars are driving at high speeds) treated the chaffing as a burn and bandaged me up ha-ha. Anyway we got through the rain and the event was a beauty. At least we got to demonstrate the wet weather handling of the cars. I’m off to QLD again on Thursday for the (horse) races at the Queensland Turf Club on Saturday. Should be good. The marquee we have is a ripper. Free food and booze all day. Can’t complain. Hopefully I can manage to back a few winners.

The fishing has been red hot around Melbourne of late. You inner city folk should drop a line in down at docklands and in the Yarra up Richmond way. Probably not the best idea to eat the fish caught in these areas but they are great fun to catch. The bream in the Yarra put up a good fight. Best bait is sandworm, prawn, or cooked chicken breast. Soft plastics are also working well. Down at the Docklands the bream are also on the charge. Some good Mulloway (very elusive species) have also been caught on live whiting. Live bait is the best way to get the big Mulloways. Catch yourself a small whiting and pierce it just above the head and also down the lower spine. Thread your line through and use a double hook set-up. The little fella will just swim away and hopefully end up in the mouth of a huge Mulloway. Best time to strike is dusk. Point Cook of all places is also going off its head lately with huge fish being caught. Probably the best thing to ever happen to the place. Anyway enough about fishing.

I’ve officially retired from Wicked Wings and Zingers (except for special occasions). I’m in pre-season training for the 2010 footy season and need to shed a quite few to get back to peak fitness. I know it’s a long way off until next year but I figured I just need to get fit again anyway. Keen as to get back out on the field. How good are sports!

Sounds- I went and saw You Am I last week. The guys played one hell of a rock show and confirmed my thoughts that they are the greatest band in this country. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve seen this band and they never disappoint. Mr. Tim Rogers was in fine form and looking rather dapper as always. I think I’m actually in love with him. The Parklife festival will announce its first line-up of acts next week. With MSTRKRFT, Lady Sovereign, Erol Akin, and Claude VonStroke already confirmed I’m pretty keen to head along to this. It’s usually a top day of rug cutting. Good times! The new Closure In Moscow record is a beauty and if you’ve haven’t got your hands on a copy then I suggest you do because your ears will love it. So stoked for these guys. They are killing it over in the states. Also, do yourself a favor and check out local Melbourne lads Dead Actors Club (www.myspace.com/deadactorsclub) for a dose of quality pop rock. I’m pretty sure these guys are going to do big things! Get on board.

Anyways that’s all I’ve got this time around. I hope everyone has a great week!

Until next time… God bless ya!

Melbourne - The second Coming

01.06.2009 | allshallperish | 3 COMMENTS

Blog town mach two, and what better occasion then summarising my adventures (or misadventures) in Melbourne.  The trip began well with the van being picked up and packed with little hassle and the celebratory listening of NWA - Straight out of compton to get us out of Adelaide.  We got to melbourne in good time with no hiccups on the way apart from the van stinking of piss and farts (sorry boys) and excite and excrement filled the air as we headed in to town to watch our boys in Bermuda play at NEXT.  They ruled as usual and if you haven't had the chance pick up their Debut EP called Tyrant which you can pick up at their myspace.

We played Friday night in Footscray at a place called Vedette.  It started well with the promoter basically telling us we probably shouldn't play (you beauty).   Bush week is over luv so we played regardless and had a ball.  The local piss head/bum was in fine form dropping his money in the mosh and subsequenlty trying to eat his phone and the PA. During a trip to the van i saw him pissing on the road. From now on Footscray will have a special place in my heart.

Saturday night entailed more of the playing of the music at Pony with Sydonia (who played disgustingly tight that night my i add, cunts).  The sound was huge thanks to the mixer, and we played well and considerably less intoxicated than the night before.  The stage their is tiny by the venue itself is a ripper as are the beers on tap.  Thanks for putting us on the bill Cam !

The trip hope was uneventuful, apart from everyone being delirious from the amount of beers, lack of sleep and insane amount of farts huffed during the trip.

PS Where the fuck are all the Farmers Union iced coffees ?

Band Of The Week - Giants

01.06.2009 | KYS-Cam | 0 COMMENTS

Giants are a five-piece band out of Melbourne. If you're into The Ghost Inside and the more melodic end of the metalcore spectrum then you'll probably dig these guys.

Check them out at www.myspace.com/giantsmelbourne

It's been six weeks since my last blog

25.05.2009 | KYS-Cam | 0 COMMENTS

Well, that's not strictly true. It's been six weeks since my last blog that WASN'T talking about sweet new local bands. Hopefully you've been enjoying this.

Anyhow, my boys House VS Hurricane are heading out on tour again shortly. For those of you that have seen the guys before, they'll be playing one or two new tracks from their new record that they've been working oh so hard on. I've been lucky enough to hear the demos and I can assure you that if you liked the band before, you're going to fucking love them now. Suss dates at www.myspace.com/housevshurricane

While we're at it, Mary Jane Kelly just announced a new tour today, along with their Trial & Error bros Dropsaw and Hopeless. Again, suss all the dates at www.myspace.com/maryjanekellyhc

Had a ripping weekend (just gone). Friday night enjoyed the new UFC game on xbox 360 with an array of awesome dudes, celebrated the continued awesomeness that is some of my friend's new daughter and of course, spent an afternoon on the cans to welcome Adam Fiske to his 27th year of living. Great spread, good company and some amazing heckling from old mate CF made for a great day.

Now onto something a little less enjoyable. I was disgusted to hear that some poor bloke was stabbed to death - in front of some of his family members no less - for intervening a fight (if you can call 3 dudes kicking a guy when he's on the deck a fight) on Brunswick Street. From an early age we're taught to stick up for people who can't stick up for themselves and (most of us) have had a sense of "doing good" instilled in us from an early age, however, if good people are going to die trying to do the right thing then I have no doubt that these random acts of heroics/kindness/being a good samaritan will become few and far between. I only hope that the boys in blue can find these pieces of shit (although they'll probably get off with 8 years each).

On a positive note, I haven't contracted swine flu yet, which is a miracle if you believe all the hoopla that the media have been generating over the last few weeks.

Playlist for the last couple of weeks:

Green Day - 21st Century Breakdown
Gallows - Grey Britain
Yak Ballz - Scifentology 2
The Night Marchers - See You In Magic
Rancid - Let The Dominoes Fall
Alexisonfire - Old Crows/Young Cardinals
Cage - I Never Knew You
Pulling Teeth - Paranoid Delusions/Paradise Illusions
Rush - Moving Pictures
Samiam - Clumsy
Jawbreaker - 24 Hour Revenge Therapy
Further Seems Forever - How To Start A Fire
Coalesce - Ox

and finally, The Dangerous Summer - Reach For The Sun, which is an early contender for album of the year!
