26.07.2008 14:22:15 | Jarule | 3 Comments It's been a while since I did one of these. Sorry guys, I've been in rehab for alcohol abuse.
It's been a big last few days. Thursday night I hit up Next to see Mourning Tide. They were great. Always are pretty tight. I drank about 20 vodka cranberrys and got home much later than I wanted too.
Worked Friday (which was an extreme struggle). Cam and myself had lunch on Swan st and were also caught in some epic old person domestic. It was like we were in some kind of fourth dimension. Maybe I was just extremely hungover but I'd be lying if I said I didn't fantasize about clubbing these old folks over the head with a baguette.
Caught Mindsnares un-official last show at the Arty last night. They were amazing as usual, their fans were not haha.
I would just like to put a shout out to my main man Christian Bale. Old mate is now an A-List actor. He has always been A-List for me though. New Batman is incredible (der).
But I just wanted to give him mad props for telling his sister to 'getttttt fucked' when she asked him for $200k to raise her hack kids. Apparently you can be charged with assault for yelling at someone in the UK. What a man!
Until next time, keep it real. 11.06.2008 17:50:15 | Jarule | 3 Comments
I feel sick. I don't know what is wrong with me, but I ain't feeling good! Could have something to do with the massive bender I had on the weekend. Started on Saturday night with the Four Year Strong/ Rex Banner show at the Arty. It was a great night! Good times were had by all. I was really impressed with Four Year Strong and Rex Banner were good as usual (Still not enough story telling from old mate though :P ). Sunday I felt like dying. Too much to drink. Did NOTHING all day and the only thing that got me through it was that A Wilhelm Scream was later that night. Oh my god! What a show! Simply amazing. AWS were so fucking good! It was an hour long sing-a-long! Soooo much beer was drunk. It was ridiculous. Cam was looser than a Thai hooker as well. I mean, he was trying to fuck dudes in the pit. Incredible! MDK played pretty well. Tight set, nothing went wrong and no one throwed empy bottles at us. Even sold a few cd's! All in all, a great night! I uploaded a bunch of videos from the show... Wipe My Ass With ShowbizMe Vs. MorrisseyThese Dead StreetsThe HorseAnd hell, even a new(ish) MDK song... New MDK song Josh and I are joining the Gym this week. I'm gonna be fucking huge! I'll smash all of ya's! Now I'm going to die.
24.05.2008 13:08:09 | Jarule | 5 Comments So last week I went to Canberra for a few days to visit a friend. Flew down last Thursday and rocked in about lunchtime. My time there involved lots of beers, goon, scotch, goon and more goon. I stayed on Campus (ANU). It was...odd. Everyone was pretty young but friendly nonetheless. Good times were had by all. Even went to my first gay club! Yeah yeah.
Got back on Saturday night pretty fucking washed up. Only to find Josh even worse for wear. Natch'.
MDK rehearsed on Tuesday night. We sounded like absolute balls (for a change) due to only having one guitarist for the evening. It basically ended in a jazz fusion jam off with the crescendo being some mutant cover version of 'Eye Of The Tiger". Killer.
KYS has been pretty chill this week. We have some new stock coming in. Rockett Clothing. They have some pretty cool stuff so I'm keen! We also have Famous Stars & Straps coming onto the site soon so that should be great.
Considering going to the Prom Queen show tomorrow night. I wonder if there is a pensioners section? Should be interesting if I do attend. Would definitely not be looking forward to all the little mosh fairies. Aww, how cute.
Call of the week goes to my pal Craig (Bengine_Clothing on the wonderful KYS Forumz). After numerous posts about "getting loose" at the upcoming Four Year Strong show, he said, and I quote, "This might actually be the night that I turn into beer.". Words cannot express how funny that is.
Things I am looking forward to:
- Getting my bass rig fixed
- Drinking red wine
- Fight Night next Saturday
- Getting tattooed again
- New Indiana Jones film
- Four Beer Strong
P.s last night Josh and I were at KFC, and WHILST I WAS BEING SERVED, Josh sms'd me saying "Couple gay dudes at the back of the line". I'm still deciding if it's the funniest thing I have ever read. 10.05.2008 15:16:54 | Jarule | 5 Comments
Fucking hell Soilwork are good! Seriously, great great band! I first heard this band on Triple R's 'Hard Report' 'back in the day - which I guess wasn't REALLY back in the day, but hey I was sort-of- young so give me a break! The year was 2000. Mr Andrew Hoag used to always play the song The Chainheart Machine from the album of the same name. I quickly purchased said album. This was my first real taste of thrash metal. YES EVEN BEFORE I HAD HEARD AT THE GATES!*SHOCK*! And from then on I was hooked on ye olde Swedish metal. 'Predator's Portrait' came out the following year and OH MY GOD! Thrash! Melody! Clean vocals! It had it all. So ahead of their time (probably not but fuck ya'll!). The year after that came ‘Natural Born Chaos’ and my god! No words can describe. They took the melody from Predators to new heights on this record AND enlisted (my then and current idol) Devin Heavy Devy Townsend to produce the thing. What an amazing album. Sure, it wasn't as fast as previous records, but it was in a whole league of its own as far as song writing goes. Devin and Soilwork!? Is there anything better? Then came the album I don't like to talk too much about. ‘Figure Number Five’. *SHUDDER*. I get a chill down my spine just thinking of this bastard of a record. Sure, there were a few catchy songs but what the fuck happened? The production was gooooone! Actually, it was nonexistent. It was muddy, lifeless and uninspired. Ugh. How many bands can say they put out a career defining album (‘Natural Born Chaos’), then a career ending album (‘Figure Number Five’), THEN put out an album nearly as good as the career defining album? Which leads me too.... 'Stabbing The Drama'. Wow. I really didn't expect much when I first grabbed this. All my doubts were laid to rest in the first 30 seconds of the opening track. New drummer? Check. Good production? Check. Epic sing-along choruses? Triple check. What a record! That new drummer fucking kills it. Genius. The latest effort, 'Sworn To A Great Divide', is...Well, let's just say I have mixed feelings about it. The production is OK. The songs are above average. It's still great I guess, but I don't know. I think they have reached their peak. But man did we have some good years guys! My favourite albums in order: The Chainheart Machine (Nostalgia Thrash & sweeping duel solos = happy in the pants) Predators Portrait (Wow!) Natural Born Chaos (Devin, will you marry me?) Stabbing The Drama (Great return to form!) Sworn To A Great Divide (I can deal with it) Steelbath Suicide (Good first record, not great) Figure Number Five (Ew)
Soilworkers unite!
06.05.2008 14:47:14 | Jarule | 2 Comments Last Friday I went out for drinks with Josh and a few other friends. Went to a mate’s new apartment in the city. It’s amazing. It’s at QV and the view is SPECTACULAR! Although, I felt quite nauseous looking over the edge of the balcony. My time there consisted of Bourbon, Guitar Hero, Children Of Bodom and Hammerfall DVD’s. We then headed out to some hotel to pound booze. The only thing worth mentioning is some complete fuck up (still in his shirt and pants from work I’m assuming?) dancing like Paul Mercurio in Baz Luhrmann's 'Strictly Ballroom'. Vomit. Get home 2am. KFC. Sleep. Wake up at 7am. Work. Finish 5pm. Die. On Sunday I was lucky enough to see Against Me! at the Arthouse. It was amazing! This is the second time I have had the pleasure of seeing them at the Arty and I’ve got to say, there is no better venue! They played a great mix of new and old songs, so I was quite happy. Actually, 'Sink. Florida.Sink' was all I really needed to be happy. I also filmed the whole thing and it turned out half decent so I will be posting that on the interwebs sometime in the near future. If I like you I may even make a DVD copy of it for you. Maybe. Coming up this weekend is the AX7/Bullet/Atreyu/BCE show. Should be interesting. AX7 were pretty (coked up) good last time I saw them at The Palace. There is going to be a lot of eyeliner there. May have to liquor up. You know, just for a laugh. Things that rule at the moment: - New Opeth album 'Watershed'
- Going to Canberra next weekend
Take care of yourselves and each other.
