09.07.2008 09:41:43 | Maddo | 0 Comments Last Saturday was The Dead Walk's final ever show in Newcastle. Bands travelled from all around the country for the show and I bet it was worth it. Hollow opened the night and for a band that had only played one show prior to this night, fuck me they were good. They are defiantly a band to look out for because I think they have a good thing going. Next up was WMD (White Male Dumbinance, not Weapons of Mass Destruction) and they were pretty good. They played about a hundred songs because each song was only very short. They dedicated the set to the drummer who had a serious motorbike accident and broke both his shoulders last year. According to the band he was in hospital for 48 years and died (not really). Values Queer or Values Here (which ever one you prefer to call them) from Brisbane played next and they were really good. A couple of new tracks from their album coming out in a few months on Skull and Bones were played and those songs sounded really good. Some songs from the demo available for download on their myspace were also played which was great because those songs are sweet. Next up was Newcastle’s own Every Word and they were good as usual. Killin' It, This Is It and Mater Matris from their demo all got played and everyone knew all the words to those songs so every sang along. They played a couple of new songs and an FMD cover which ruled. Infection from Adelaide would be the funniest band I’ve ever seen. Their guitarist Fry-Z is hilarious. In between songs they were constantly ripping each other off and just generally being humourus. They mostly played songs from their new 7' but played a couple from their Demo. While waiting for The Dead Walk to set up I was out the front watching these guys putting a dildo on the road and waiting for cars to run it over. When a car would eventually run it over everyone would laugh and start cheering. Finally the band everyone had come to see one last time The Dead Walk. I expected the band to rule and I wasn’t wrong. Every song had massive pile ons trying to get the mic and let some lyrics rip. They played a good mix of songs from every release and even a TSOL cover. Dolan brought one of his old soccer trophies to give away to the best mosher, which was eventually won by Doug from Infection. Toward the end of their set people were jumping off the speakers and going mental. It was sad to see them finish but I am looking forward to seeing them play again this Saturday at Hardcore 2008. It was a good night and every band that played was awesome and you should check them out if you already haven’t. http://www.myspace.com/hollownc http://www.myspace.com/whitemaledumbinance http://www.myspace.com/valuesherehc http://www.myspace.com/infectionskateordie http://www.myspace.com/everywordhc http://www.myspace.com/thedeadwalkhc *Photo by Grayscale Media
29.06.2008 17:29:31 | Maddo | 1 Comment Last night I went to the Cambridge to watch Dropsaw and a few other bands play at Dropsaw's launch show for their new album Victims Or Killers. Onslaught played first and they were fairly decent. I saw them a few months ago and they had a completely different line-up yesterday than what they did last time. They played a Terror cover and that was pretty good. The Exiled played next and they were really good. I had never really listened to them before but that didn’t matter because they played well. The band said they just recorded an EP which should be coming out soon. Next up was Mark My Words. I have had their demo for a while now but I had never seen them before. They were really good, played about 7 songs and a cover, but they didn’t say what the cover was. They had a very nice red shirt was I ended up buying at the end of the night. No Love Lost played after them and they were sweet. The highlight of their set was when they played Weakest Link, a song about kids using weapons to win fights. That song got the best reaction from everyone in the crowd. Dropsaw closed the night by playing a mixture of old and new songs. They played Free World, Misery, Scum To Waste, Wasted Youth and possibly a couple of others from Missing Limbs as well as some new songs from their new album Victims Or Killers. They are playing all over the country on their launch tour so everyone make sure you go and see them. In summary, Dropsaw = great. Buy their album.
12.06.2008 17:41:53 | Maddo | 3 Comments Exactly one week ago I went to Sydney to watch Four Year Strong play with some other shit band, Jack Napier and Losing Streak. I got there just as Losing Streak started and they were pretty good. Old man Snarez was down the front watching them and doing some sweet head banging. Jack Napier played next and were sweet. They played mostly songs from their Revenge EP and one from their demo. They played a NFG cover and after much heckling from Kelly a Hatebreed cover. The almighty Rex Banner were next and they were very good. Halfway through the set Brendan hit Cotter in the face with his bass, so Cotter went offstage and Kelly called Caed from Jack Napier up to do Hit Or Miss and that was very good. They played a new song from the split with Homewrecker which sounded very nice. While I was waiting for Four Year Strong to start I had chats with Loukas and Kelly, and Kelly has a fantastic mow. Four Year Strong are a great live band. They have an awesome beard ratio. All the songs they played were from their Rise Or Die Trying album except when they did a Suicide File cover. I saw Kelly doing some sweet air drumming while FYS were playing. They were very entertaining and did I mention they have sweet beards. Things I’m looking forward too: Parkway on Saturday Hearing the Break Even Split Dropsaw’s album launch Hardcore 08
29.05.2008 21:58:26 | Maddo | 3 Comments Last night I traveled toWyong to see I Killed The Prom Queen among others on the bands 'Say Goodbye' tour. I don’t know the name of the first band that played, but it’s defiantly not a bad thing. They would have to be hands down the worst band I have ever seen live. They were worse than Drop Dead Gorgeous and Aiden, and that’s saying something. The Ghost Inside were next which made them look amazing compared to the last band. They could have come onstage and said 'Go Fuck Yourselves, You Little Pricks' and walked offstage and I still would have enjoyed that more than the band that played before them. The Ghost Inside were really good and I enjoyed their whole set, I wish they had more sizes in their merch as I would have bought a shirt. The Red Shore played next and they were decent. I have never really been a huge fan of them, but they are good at what they do. The bass played had this look about him that he wanted to jump offstage and belt the shit out of someone. I don’t know why but he was pretty angry the whole set. Jamie did a pretty good job on vocals but it just wasn’t my cup of tea. Bring Me The Horizon....well you either love them or you hate them and I just happen to be one of the people who hate them. Before some smartass comes here and tries to abuse me saying 'You only hate them because that’s the cool thing to say', if you were there last night you would have clearly seen that the cool thing is to love the band and want to suck Oli's dick. They were fairly entertaining but I didn’t really enjoy the music. I Killed The Prom Queen finished off the show and played a good mix of old and new(ish) songs. One of the funniest parts of their set was this chick in front of me saying before they started 'I have been waiting here at the front the whole night, so if you try and push in front of me I will kick you in nuts'. The only thing that disappointed me is that they didn’t play Death Certificate which was the song I was killing to hear the most. Oh well, you can’t win em all.
25.05.2008 21:40:38 | Maddo | 2 Comments Last night Her Nightmare and Jungle Fever played with A Secret Death, The Abandonment, Benneson Theory and Coma Lies at the Cambridge in Newcastle. I missed the Benneson Theory and Coma Lies (except the end of their last song) because I was playing soccer. We were winning 1 -0 the whole game until the last 2 minutes when the other team scored 2 goals. I was furious. The Abandonment were the first band I saw play a full set and they were pretty impressive. I had never really listened to them but they were very good live. One of the guitarists also had a cracking beard. A Secret Death....wow. I had listened to them a bit before hand and now I am wishing that I had listened to them a lot. They blew me away. I went and leant on the wall near the front of the stage and my ears were fucking killing me because I was so close. They played a couple of new songs and they were fantastic. I am really looking forward to hearing this new album when it hits the shelves. Jungle Fever played second last and they were really good. Most of the kids were they just to see them and Her Nightmare, which is kind of disappointing because A Secret Death were so damn good. Jungle Fever played all the songs I wanted to hear and I am looking forward to seeing their final show at Hardcore 08. Her Nightmare as Crafter has said many times would have to be the toughest band in Australia. They played mostly songs from Come Anarchy Come Ruin but they played a couple of old songs too. One of the highlights of their set was when Baina told the crowd to start a circle pit, so everyone came flying into the middle and I saw some guy get his beer knocked out of his hand, funny for me to see but it would have been shattering for him. I am looking forward to seeing Her Nightmare again at Hardcore 08.
