Interviews
War From A Harlots Mouth
Even within metal's endless labelling and over-specific sub-genres, Germany's War From A Harlots Mouth have always been a hard band to pinpoint since their inception in 2005. With the group's debut Australian tour kicking off this week, guitarist Simon Hawemann kindly caught up with KYS recently to talk about touring, German brew and the possibility of a new studio album in 2012.
Four Year Strong
Four Year Strong have never been a band willing to stagnate themselves. On their fourth studio album, ‘In Some Way, Shape Or Form’, the band has redefined their musical ability and allowed their songwriting to naturally progress away from the standard formulas that characterised their earlier work. Guitarist and co-vocalist Dan O’Connor spoke to Kill Your Stereo about the new album, the band’s upcoming Australian tour as part of Soundwave Festival, and why he’ll never be content with doing the same old thing all his life.
My Chemical Romance
2011 marks 10 years since My Chemical Romance formed. People first started taking notice when the band released their 2004 major label debut, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge but their 2006 concept album The Black Parade really put them on the map. 2010 saw the band release their fourth studio album, Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, taking their sound in a new direction. Next year My Chemical Romance will be hitting our shores as a part of the Big Day Out as well as playing a string of headlining sideshows. Before the band begin preparing for the tour, guitarist Frank Iero sat down for a chat with Kill Your Stereo to discuss picking set lists, their next album and exploding sinuses.
Mariachi El Bronx
On paper, punk plus traditional Mexican instrumentation and get ups sounds like a bad joke. But The Bronx's Mariachi double self is serious business. Having released album numero dos as Mariachi El Bronx in August, the band are set to rock Big Day Out crowds across the country next year. Ahead of their return down under in January, we caught up with drummer Jorma Vik to talk a bit about either incarnation of The Bronx and a lot about a really messed up story regarding Fletcher from Pennywise.
Alcest
KYS talks to Neige, the musical mastermind behind experimental French black metallers Alcest. As anyone who has listened to Alcest’s music knows, black metal is just the starting point for their sound, which envelopes shoegaze, ambient and post-metal. The band recently performed their first Australian headlining tour, selling out several dates, quite a feat for a former studio project that has only been performing live in the last 18 months. Here Neige discusses how he gets his distinctive guitar sound, the band’s future direction and his motivations behind writing Alcest’s personal music.
La Dispute
It has been three years since La Dispute released their first full length Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair and since then the band have gathered an impressive reputation. Between releases the band put out a bunch of EPs and splits while keeping up a hectic touring schedule before writing and recording their second full length, Wildlife, which dropped in early October. In the month since the release the band haven't stopped, but vocalist Jordan Dreyer took some time out to have a chat with Kill Your Stereo about the writing and recording the album, touring and heading back to Australia.
Angelas Dish
Angelas Dish have been a staple of the Aussie live scene for years now, with some of the finest EP's and albums the local rock scene has produced under their belts, the band are gearing up to head overseas and record a new album which should see them rise to a new, well deserved, level in their careers. KYS had a chat with drummer Chris to see where the guys heads are at.
Wednesday 13
Creepy horror punk legend Wednesday 13 never sits still for too long. After a series of solo releases and hard touring from 2005, Wednesday jumped back behind the helm of the Muderdolls alongside Joey Jordison in 2009 and releases highly popular album 'Women And Children Last.' With the re-energised Muderdolls project back on the shelf indefinitely, Wednesday has just released his 5th solo album 'Calling All Corpses.' With the new album under his belt, Wednesday is ready to do it all again and is making his way to Australia in March as part of Soundwave Festival. He recently stopped by Killyourstereo to tell us all about it.
The Bride
The Bride are a 5-piece hardcore band from Sydney, one of the most recent additions to the UNFD roster and definitely a band to look out for. With the buzz they have created surrounding their debut full length President Rd, they are definitely a band to keep your eye on. A few days before the album's "official" release, vocalist Kevin Schultz had a chat with Kill Your Stereo about the album, their upcoming tour with House Vs Hurricane, tour rituals and a whole bunch more.
The Getaway Plan
The Getaway Plan has emerged triumphantly from their hiatus with a brand new album and an extensive national tour with Break Even and Gatherer kicking off later this month, and are poised and ready to retake their position at the forefront of the Australian music scene. We caught up with guitarist Clint Ellis to talk about Requiem, Big Day Out and the band’s hopeful vision for the future.
