Anchorhead
Anchorhead are a four piece punk/emo/rock band based out of Perkasie, Pennsylvania. The band recently released a split with Virginia Beach's Cardinal through Philadelphia based label Either/Or Records, which in the past has uncovered the likes of Citizen, Maker and Settle For Less. We caught up with the band's vocalist and guitarist John Schiavone to talk the new split and the band's future plans.
Title Fight
With the overwhelming success of their 2012 sophomore full length, Floral Green, Kingston, Pennsylvania’s Title Fight have further solidified themselves as one of the best melodic hardcore bands in the scene. Having toured Australia in 2011, Title Fight will return to our shores in March, joined by Tasmania’s Luca Brasi. Killyourstereo.com caught up with guitarist Shane Moran to discuss the upcoming tour, as well as the band’s plans for the future.
FIDLAR
L.A skate-punks FIDLAR (“Fuck It, Dog, Life's a Risk") epitomise the live fast, die young maxim. Wielding a mix of gritty weed-bleached punk and summery Californian jams, their debut self-titled album is crammed with raucous tales of getting pissed, getting high, doing drugs and generally not giving a shit. We sent a few questions to FIDLAR bassist Brandon Schwartzel and got some short, snappy responses back.
Deftones
In terms of respect, Sacramento stalwarts Deftones are near peerless. Boasting an impressive career, Deftones are a band at the top of their game. Last year’s impressive ‘Koi No Yokan’ picked up from where predecessor ‘Diamond Eyes’ left off. With a string of sold-out Australian shows coming up in May, Killyourstereo.com caught up with one of rock’s true gentlemen, Sergio Vega to talk about writing music, touring with your friends and Australian coffee.
Velociraptor
With twelve members rocking out onstage at any given time, Brisbane’s Velociraptor are one hell of a menacing rock & roll beast. The ensembles’ 2012 mini album The World Warriors is crammed full of blissed-out melodies, scuzzy ‘60s garage punk, and plenty of sugary sweet sing-along choruses. Before they clamber onstage for what’s sure to be a rowdy set at this year’s Push Over festival, Killyourstereo.com asked Velociraptor’s Jeremy Neale about what really happened to the dinosaurs, supporting OFF! and organising a Phil Collins-themed festival.
This Is Hell
This Is Hell don’t do things in half measures. The Long Island outfit have found a strong style with their hardcore, thrash crossover. Killyourstereo.com recently sat down with guitarist Rick Jimenez to discuss plans for 2013, the band's upcoming Soundwave appearance and jamming to Metallica records in your lounge room.
The Blackout
Wielding raucous rock & roll anthems and a reputation for explosive live shows, UK post-hardcore dudes The Blackout are preparing to bring the party vibes to Soundwave this year with their aptly titled new album, Start The Party. Before they touch down in Australia this February, Killyourstereo.com had a quick chat to bassist Rhys Lewis about touring, befriending the Dirty Sanchez guys and climbing festival tents while drunk.
Continents
While we don’t like throwing around terms like ‘buzz’ or ‘hype’ without reason, it’s hard to deny the commotion surrounding up-and-coming UK hardcore act Continents right now. Formed in 2010, they’ve built a solid following in the United Kingdom and are set to take on the world with the release of debut album Idle Hands, which is packed with powerhouse vocals, technical guitars and hard-hitting breakdowns perfect for the mosh pit. To get the lowdown on ‘the UK’s premiere hardcore band’, Killyourstereo.com had a chat to vocalist Phil Cross about the debut album, what fuels their music and making it in the UK hardcore scene.
Biffy Clyro
Double Albums usually contain some filler, but Biffy Clyro promise their new double record 'Opposites' won't. If you can believe one band when they say this, it's Biffy Clyro. The group have made a career out of off kilter rock music that will surprise you at every turn and Killyourstereo.com sat down with drummer/vocalist Ben Johnston to discuss how they plan to uphold their quirky reputation on the new record.
Northlane
Sydney metallers Northlane are on a swift rise. 2012 saw the band tour Canada, support Parkway Drive/I Killed the Prom Queen and drop a crushing new single. With their ‘Worldeater’ tour just wrapping up, Killyourstereo.com caught up with vocalist Adrian Fitapaldes to talk music, the band’s upcoming Soundwave and Push Over festival spots, and playing breakdowns on a boat.
