Interviews
Aftermath
It's been a good year for Sydney heavy-hardcore five piece Aftermath. Their debut EP "Disbeliever" dropped early in 2011 and was backed up by impressive touring hours, including shows with The Amity Affliction and Deez Nuts. With plans for relentless touring and another release in 2012, we spoke to drummer and resident edge warrrior Benji Jacobs to talk about mosh metal, camo and nudity.
Alcest
KYS talks to Neige, the musical mastermind behind experimental French black metallers Alcest. As anyone who has listened to Alcest’s music knows, black metal is just the starting point for their sound, which envelopes shoegaze, ambient and post-metal. The band recently performed their first Australian headlining tour, selling out several dates, quite a feat for a former studio project that has only been performing live in the last 18 months. Here Neige discusses how he gets his distinctive guitar sound, the band’s future direction and his motivations behind writing Alcest’s personal music.
Angelas Dish
Angelas Dish have been a staple of the Aussie live scene for years now, with some of the finest EP's and albums the local rock scene has produced under their belts, the band are gearing up to head overseas and record a new album which should see them rise to a new, well deserved, level in their careers. KYS had a chat with drummer Chris to see where the guys heads are at.
Alesana
North Carolina six-piece Alesana have been making music for 7 years now, and with their interesting concept approach to writing albums they always have a story to tell. Having just released their fourth studio album, marking their Epitaph Records debut, Alesana are only looking forward. We caught up with guitarist and clean vocalist Shawn Mike before he jumped on stage, for a quick chat about the album, working with a major label and their recent trip to Australia.
Adept
Fresh from touring with the likes of heavy juggernaughts Bring Me The Horizon and A Day to Remember, Swedens Adept have taken time out of their busy touring schedule to talk about their new album and crazy Gothenburg producers.
After The Fall
The name After The Fall may be familiar to you, but it's likely you may be thinking of the other one. This After The Fall was stablished in 2003, and play melodic hardcore in the vein of Bad Religion, Paint It Black, NOFX, Propaghandi and Kill Your Idols to name a few. The band's latest record "Eradication" is out now through Mightier Than Sword Records, and the band will be making the trip to Australia for the very first time in November, touring alongside of Melbourne's Anchors. We caught up with the band's vocalist and guitarist Mike Moak to discuss the upcoming tour, as well as what the band has in store for their future.
Attack Attack!
Ohio's Attack Attack! have certainly had their fair share of controversy in the last few years. Now with two full-length releases under their belts, the band has recently re-released their sophomore self-titled album and is set to begin on their next. As Attack Attack! headline the legendary Warped Tour over in the US, guitarist Andrew Whiting was kind enough to answer some quick questions.
Anberlin
Anberlin have always been very welcome in Australia, we have let them know this by kindly providing them with sold out crowds at virtually every gig they play. Now at the end of the cycle for their sixth record 'Dark Is A Way, Light Is A Place,' the band are returning to our shores for 'An Evening With Anberlin,' a tour that promises to showcase the band's brilliant live show and span their large catalogue. Drummer Nathan Young was nice enough to have a chat about the tour, the album and life for Anberlin.
Apart From This
Melbourne's Apart From This have established themselves as one of the best up and coming pop punk bands in the country right now, and are a name you will be seeing more often in the near future. Their debut EP "Daydream" is out now through Takedown Records, the home of Tonight Alive and Skyway, and with the band hitting the road for their first East Coast tour next month with their mates Milestones, we caught up with the band's front man Tim to discuss the band and their plans for the future.
Awaken I Am
Business is about to pick up for Gold Coast band Awaken I Am. Formerly known as Sleepers, the band has been playing the alternative music scene for the last two years, having earned a reputation as one of the next up and comers in their genre, supporting big name acts and picking up an ever growing fan base along the way. The band are about to release their debut EP “Resonance” under the new name and I caught up with Ash and Dave from the band to talk about the EP, dealing with line-up changes and the state of the Australian music scene.
