Californian metallers Deafheaven have elaborated and discussed the themes and inspirations behind their upcoming studio album in a recent interview with Rolling Stone.

As Killyourstereo.com reported earlier this month, the respected outfit will release 'New Bermuda', a follow-up to 2013's 'Sunbather', this October.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, guitarist Kerry McCoy affirms the album will explore the band's metal understandings.

"A lot of this record is us being like, 'Look, we are a metal band. We do a lot of other stuff, but we can solo; we can have some Slayer riffs in there. There was a lot of, 'Hey, what if we throw some traditional thrash metal stuff in here, but just make it our own?' And I think it worked really well," the guitarist states.

"Whereas Sunbather sort of had this hopeful, dreamlike feeling to it, New Bermuda is definitely more steeped in reality. It has more to do with the idea of facing yourself, questioning what it was that you wanted in the first place, and dealing with complacency…'New Bermuda' is the destination that you're getting towards," vocalist George Clarke adds.

New Bermuda‘ is due out October 2 via Anti-. Pre-orders are available here.
