Old school meets the new school.

Korn has been saying for a while now that their newest material would see them returning their roots, a phrase that many bands love to throw around but one that rarely ends up being the case. So like many, with cautious cynicism, I'd just have to wait and see if the bands words would ring true with a return to their heavy riffs, monolithic grooves and an absence Skrillex and dubstep.

Well, as it turns out, Korn are indeed back to their early days with new single, 'Rotting In Vain'.

Heavy guitar riffs and chugs? Check. Massive bass and drum grooves? Check! Singer Jonathan Davis scatting once again? CHECK. Alongside this throwback sound, the band has also carried with them the tight and superb production from their past couple records. While this is just one song, their upcoming album could very well be the best of both worlds, really.

With their new record, the angsty as fuck sounding 'The Serenity Of Suffering' (which will be released on October 21st through Roadrunner Records), I'm sure that it'll just be a retread of their old material. But honestly, that sits well with me after years of necessary experimentation and branching out for the group. Check out 'Rotting In Vain', which originally premiered through Rolling Stone, just below.
