Come on in and give the new album from Acolyte a stream or two before it's release this Friday.

This coming Friday, August 5th, will mark the release of a host of Australian heavy music releases, and one such release will be the debut album from Melbourne's own Acolyte.

Ahead of its release, we here at KYS have sold our soul to the devil to get a stream of the record a few days early (that's what they call being hyperbolic, people). The six-track album is an epic alternative rock listen, with hints of prog-rock littered across its run time. From the captivatingly beautiful 'Monolith', to the way 'The Message' (not a Grandmaster Flash cover, mind you) builds and flows, to the sweet riffage and grooves of 'Chakra', or how 'Space And Time' naturally winds down through various instrumental sections; this album is filled to the brim with solid songwriting and grand instrumentation.

Recorded back in November 2014 with Ben Ehrenberg (whose CV features Shihad, Calling all Cars, among others), the record is obviously a long time coming for the local outfit. The band's vocalist, Morgan-Leigh Brown, had this to say about Acolyte's milestone effort:

"Shades of Black is the biggest event of the bands lives... of my life. We have put tireless hours of blood, sweat and tears (literally) into making this a possibility. The album has been in the making for a very long time. It contains so much of each of us and has been completely financed and backed independently (all on our own). We just want it to get out there into peoples' ears and for them to love it as much as we do"

Well, let us all hope so! Scroll on down below and stream 'Shades Of Black' in full. Chuch!
