And no, it's obviously not about the band Paramore.

And no, it's obviously not about the band Paramore.

Following on from their short but incendiary single 'Rodent' last month, Melbourne's The Gloom In The Corner have now upped their nu-metal/metalcore game with their dark new cut, 'Thirteen Six (Paramour)'.

Last year's 'Fear Me' full-length will soon be followed up by the 'Homecoming' EP, dropping hard on June 13th - as this new song's title not-so-subtly hints at.

Now, for those unaware, 'Fear Me' was a more or less a concept release following the stories and eventual deaths of a fictional military unit called Echo Squad in the "Section 13" universe (find more info and explanation on that whole narrative here), and this upcoming EP will continue the story told in its predecessor. "Homecoming continues the story left behind in Fear Me told from the perspective of Ethan Hardy, the brother of the main protagonist in, Jay, from the last story", as the band themselves puts it.

However, while it will no doubt be just as dark and heavy musically speaking, it also seems to be dealing with far more tangible, personal themes, if this new song is anything to go on.

For 'paramour' is another word for an illicit or even unlawful lover, and with the song being largely dedicated to victims of domestic abuse - according to the band and this video's bio - 'Thirteen Six (Paramour)' doesn't seem to hide behind any fictional stories or metaphors. And lyrics like "If my face is a canvas then your art is a reflection of violence", "Conceal it all/I'm clearly deplored/There's no love here/When I'm screaming at my bedroom floor", and "13-6, remember that day

I walked away", help to make that sense of hopelessness, frustration, sheer anger and even self-hatred that much more poignant and impactful. All making me feel that this 'Homecoming' EP will see The Gloom In The Corner truly showing the Australian heavy music scene what they're fully capable of with their music and their art come June 13th.

This new track's film clip (found below) was directed and edited by Martin Wood - with some added help from Lord Media (AKA Liam Davidson and Jackson Cairnduff - with the explosive song itself being engineered by Michael Duffield and Scottie Simpson, who also mixed and mastered this forthcoming release.

You can pre-order 'Homecoming' here via the Big Cartel page or through their Bandcamp.

RIYL if you dig Dregg, Sworn In, Sylar, and Emmure. So, for me personally, that's a big yes, a big no, a 'not really' and a 'fuck yes'.

What do you think of Gloom's latest?

Also, if you vibed with 'Fear Me', be sure to check out this recently released B-side from that album with 'c.o.f | f.i.n.' - the story of Yuri, as performed by a band made up of the remaining members of Echo Squad. Honestly, you can kinda hear why it was kept as a B-side...
