Aboriginal singer-songwriter and proud Yorta Yorta descendant, Scott Darlow, has mined out another heartland rock single from his solid 2016 full-length album, ‘Sorry’, in the form of 'Runaway'. Runaway, just as it was on the original album, is a light beautiful, mid-tempo and catchy ballad; one that actually tells an incredible story of survival.

The song is based on a true story about a refugee couple escaping their home country of Iraq from growing political danger, and with nothing left, fled to Turkey with only each other for support. In a recent press release for this single, the school speaker, musician and all-around legend Darlow expanded on where the story for this song originates from, saying:

Runaway is a song I wrote about a 14-year-old boy I met after a school performance in Melbourne. His mum and dad were living in Iraq, and married at 18 and 19. They fell pregnant straight away, and shortly after, things changed politically where they were living and they were in danger and had to get out. So they sold all their possessions to fund their escape. They sold everything including their shoes, and walked barefoot, pregnant and 18 from Iraq to Turkey, eating what they could find along the way, eventually finding their way to Australia via a refugee camp. This song is about courage, survival, perspective and love.

Taking such a story and turning it into a sonic journey is par for the course for this Indigenous activist and World Vision spokesman and he's been taking his music and loving message on tour lately - hitting up Sydney and Melbourne so far this month. But Darlow's not done yet, as he will be making another stop in Adelaide, hitting up the Exeter Hotel on July 20th, for any of you South Australian peeps that may or many not be interested.
