Tom Gabel comes out as transgender

Against Me! front man Tom Gabel has shocked many today by announcing to the world via an interview with Rolling Stone magazine that he is a transgender.

The article states that Gabel has been privately dealing with gender dysphoria for many years now, and will soon begin the process of transition via hormone and electrolysis treatments. Gabel also announced that he eventually plans to change his name to Laura Jane Grace and remain married to wife Heather.

Gabel stated in the interview, "I'm going to have embarrassing moments, and that won't be fun. But that's part of what talking to you is about – is hoping people will understand, and hoping they'll be fairly kind."
