A new extreme metal festival is set to take place in Melbourne early next year.

Though details are a little light at this stage and we don’t have an official lineup yet, Obscene Extreme’s website states Melbourne will be part of the Obscene Extreme World Tour with dates locked in for 12 – 13 April, 2013. Taking in Mexico, Indonesia, the Czech Republic and Australia, the festival promises a ‘’cross selection of new and old underground grindcore, crust, punk, death metal, thrash metal, hardcore and everything in between”.

Organisers promise low ticket prices, no "shitty rules" and "no shitty security” and a lenient dress code (“Wear a gasmask, dress as a goregrind banana, Obscene Extreme is more than a festival – it's a party!”). A venue for the festival has yet to be announced.

Originating in the Czech Republic in 1999, the Obscene Extreme Festival has hosted over 500 bands from around the world, including grindcore outfits Human Scum, Cock and Ball Torture, Internal Suffering, Melancholy Pessimism and Cripple Bastards.
