The NSFW video comes ahead of the band's slot at Invasion Fest

More DREGG More DREGG

Melbourne outfit Dregg have slogged it out this year continuing to build their reputation as one of the city's most hectic live acts, but they're matching that renown in the studio — and on the screen — too.

As seen in the freshly unveiled (briefly NSFW) video for new single Weirdo, the band are well in touch with their atypical side, choosing to take hold of the very term often levelled against the members themselves and wear it with pride.

The real-world origins of that defiance shine through in the song's lyrics, when the band's openly bisexual vocalist, Christopher Mackertich, acknowledges his branding as a "fucking faggot" by people who do not (even try to) understand his experiences. "What do you know about being a weirdo?" he charges the listener as the song storms to its end.

In keeping with the subject material, the clip itself revels in the freedom to be its gleefully warped self, taking some obvious visual cues from A Clockwork Orange along the way to deliver a hyperactive, hyper-colourful scene that plays like a bit of a waking nightmare, but one you're not really in a massive hurry to wake up from.

The track, which follows this year's excellent earlier effort Sorry Daddy, was recorded, mixed and mastered by Jamie Marinos and Lance Prenc of Half Moon Studios, and the video was directed by Jack Rudder.

Dregg will be out and about early next month at the upcoming Invasion Fest event in Melbourne alongside Belle Haven, Polaris, Justice For The Damned, Harbours, Blinded, Graves and more.

It all goes down at Arrow On Swanston from 12.30pm on 10 December; see theGuide for more information.
