Borderland - Theme Songs For A Bluffington Basement Show

Borderland - Theme Songs For A Bluffington Basement Show

"Theme Songs For A Bluffington Basement Show” is evidence that Borderland have what it takes to be one of the better bands in the genre at this very moment. If the band can follow up this EP with an album of similar quality, exciting things will happen for this band.

Smooth on all sides, I can’t wait to see how this band ages and watch their song writing progress over the next few years.

Touche Amore / La Dispute - Searching For A Pulse / The Worth Of The World

Touche Amore / La Dispute - Searching For A Pulse / The Worth Of The World

08.08.2010 | maxw | 4 Comments

This is an absolutely outstanding CD from two of the scene’s most interesting and promising acts. It is a “split” EP in the fullest sense, with vocal collaborations and musical exploration indicating genuine consideration in the song-writing process. The entire release oozes with raw emotion, ingenuity and talent. In short, I’m ridiculously excited to see what both La Dispute and Touche Amore do next, especially if it builds upon the undoubtedly positive musical progression of either outfit on this release.

Disengage - Look Back

Disengage - Look Back

This is an excellent collection of short, consistent and catchy posi-hardcore anthems. If “Look Back” was released in the late 80s it would probably have been heralded as a classic. Injecting freshness and integrity into a somewhat stale scene, I’m very excited about the future of Disengage and sincerely hope that it doesn’t meet the same tragic fate as Bad Seed.

36 Crazyfists - Collisions and Castaways

36 Crazyfists - Collisions and Castaways

05.08.2010 | Kane_H | 1 Comments

‘Collisions and Castaways’ is a clear representation of a band arguably in their prime. That is not to say album five is a faultless offering, with a case mounted that this release is a tad complacent, but long time fans must still appreciate 36 Crazyfists’s loyalty to their sound. There is no trepidation when pressing play. You get exactly what you expect, complete with a bit of polish and effort. Not an ‘album of the year’ contender but still worthy of a few plays on the stereo.

Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare

Avenged Sevenfold - Nightmare

Satisfactory is probably the most apt word to describe ‘Nightmare’. Nothing flash, but nothing boring either. Once again, the musicality is of the highest order. However, while fans that lost faith with subsequent albums released after ‘Waking the Fallen’ will still be long gone, this offering is a solid reflection of an enduring band. At the end of the day, it is up to the listeners to make up their own mind.

The Story So Far - While You Were Sleeping

The Story So Far - While You Were Sleeping

"While You Were Sleeping" is definetly worth giving a listen, it's not just "another" pop punk record. For such a young and upcoming band their sound is already maturing more than most other bands would. The Story So Far are definetly a band to look out for, for future releases.

Samsara - Instinct Over Influence

Samsara - Instinct Over Influence

Unfortunately for Samsara, “Instinct Over Influence” is always going to be compared to “The Emptiness”, and Vine’s vocals will always be compared to Baina’s. If you can look past the change of vocals, “Instinct Over Influence” is a great second album for the band.

Shinto Katana - We Can't Be Saved

28.07.2010 | joshc | 1 Comments

Shinto Katana have once again proved that their brand of ball-breakingly bulky hardcore dashed metal is a force to be reckoned with. 'We Can't Be Saved' displays Shinto's diversity, taking influence from a variety of styles and consolidating them into eleven tracks of death metal that is both destructive and vicious.
