Demon Hunter - The World is a Thorn

Demon Hunter - The World is a Thorn

01.04.2010 | Kane_H | 0 Comments

‘The World is a Thorn’ is certainly better than a large portion of similar releases floating around at the moment but after ten years and five releases perhaps a simple pass mark is no longer sufficient. Being ‘thereabouts’ is only appealing in the infancy of a bands musical career. Let’s file this one away as decent without being spectacular.

Drawn From Bees - Run Away (single)

Drawn From Bees - Run Away (single)

01.04.2010 | jackp | 0 Comments

On some single releases, the single in question deserves all the attention, with any additional material just providing filler. However, in this case, the quality of all three of the songs on this single justifies listening to this one the entire way through.

The studio album, "Fear Not The Footsteps Of The Departed", will be released May 21st.

Mary Jane Kelly - Like There's No Tomorrow

Mary Jane Kelly - Like There's No Tomorrow

The album is pretty much flawless start to finish. It is good enough to put Mary Jane Kelly at the top of the Australian hardcore pack, but only time will tell whether or not this happens. Make sure you catch the band at any of their upcoming shows if you get the chance.

Aborted - Coronary Reconstruction (EP)

Aborted - Coronary Reconstruction (EP)

26.03.2010 | Kane_H | 0 Comments

Some have analysed and questioned the subtle ‘core’ element slowly creeping into Aborted’s sound. Granted, there is a gradual shift away from the band’s original albums, namely ‘Goremageddon’, but this is an inevitable musical trend with any band from any genre. There is comfort though upon an initial listen in realising the music is still as heavy as ever, the lyrics malevolent and the cover art still as confronting, as it is horror inspired.

Vegas In Ruins - Wolves

Wolves is an extremely well rounded metal core release and can only be destined for big things on our shore and beyond.

Dark Tranquillity - We Are The Void

Dark Tranquillity - We Are The Void

23.03.2010 | jackp | 1 Comments

Dark Tranquillity’s long time fans and those who enjoy melodic death metal will dig this album, but even those who are the most committed to this band will no doubt sense that “We Are The Void” sounds like Dark Tranquillity ultimately playing it safe and holding a little back from what they could have potentially achieved.

Persist - The Untold Story

Persist - The Untold Story

21.03.2010 | maddo | 0 Comments

While it might not be the most original material out there, it is still a solid debut from a band that is still fairly young. I am looking forward to hearing the band’s sound mature and come into their own on their future releases.

The Dillinger Escape Plan - Option Paralysis

The Dillinger Escape Plan - Option Paralysis

21.03.2010 | amymaree | 12 Comments

This album is a good step forward for Dillinger. They’ve managed to come up with what might possibly be one of their best releases to date.
It’s polished, well-crafted and perfectly constructed. I would say, they are definitely about to reach their peak.

You Me At Six - Hold Me Down

You Me At Six - Hold Me Down

20.03.2010 | amymaree | 2 Comments

You Me At Six have clearly tried to evolve and grow, but the direction they have taken is hardly a change from normal, and the song depth are a little questionable.
As someone else had mentioned, it seemed as if this album was created with the intention of gaining a larger fan base.

However, the better songs on the album still provide a multitude of catchy hooks which will keep you singing along, and there is nothing on this album that will bring you down.
I just hope that with their next release, there is a little more innovation.

The Bled - Heat Fetish

The Bled - Heat Fetish

17.03.2010 | Kane_H | 3 Comments

‘Heat Fetish’ is sure to be one of 2010’s most surprising releases. The beauty of the album and to a lesser extent the band is that while other groups quietly (or rather loudly, whichever way you want to look at it) hog the media attention, The Bled have spent time crafting one of this year’s most impressive heavy releases. Expectations will not be high going into the album but the impression left will certainly be great.
