Grown Ups - More Songs

Grown Ups - More Songs

06.06.2010 | maddo | 0 Comments

With a bio that begins with “If Grown Ups was your collage professor, “More Songs” would be Advanced Emo Mathematics with a refresher course in Punk Philosophy”, you could tell that the album was going to be memorable. “More Songs” is a fantastic debut album from the band, which isn’t going to be forgotten by me anytime soon. I am excited to see where this band goes in the future.

Deez Nuts - This Ones for You

Deez Nuts - This Ones for You

Do not let the sight of fifteen-year-old girls sporting Deez Nuts merch cloud your considered judgement. There is some merit and enjoyment to be found on ‘This One’s for You’. Perhaps not as good as predecessor ‘Stay True’, but still consistent with the group’s previous standards.

Rolo Tomassi - Cosmology

Rolo Tomassi - Cosmology

03.06.2010 | jackp | 2 Comments

In an age where there’s a tendency for bands to follow one another around in circles blinded by the desire to simply cash in on the most popular sound of the time, it’s refreshing to hear a band figuratively give the music industry the finger and to go and do their own thing. Rolo Tomassi’s music may be an acquired taste and one that still requires refining, but given enough time, and they could well find themselves ahead the pack as a band who had the integrity to lead rather than follow.

Regardless of this review or what others think, this band is doing well for themselves and will continue to do so. With a heavy tour schedule and a solid album behind them, Heroes For Hire will continue to rise and eventually become a real force.

Beneath the Sky - In Loving Memory

Beneath the Sky - In Loving Memory

‘In Loving Memory’ will offer some thrills but will not have much more of a lasting impact. Something tells me this album and its songs will go down a treat in a live setting – metalheads will have plenty of opportunity to get the pit moving with the abundance of breakdowns present throughout. However, we cannot capture this charm and intensity through merely listening to the album on the stereo.

Balance and Composure/Tigers Jaw - Split

Balance and Composure/Tigers Jaw - Split

28.05.2010 | jem | 1 Comments

Let’s face it, doing things yourself get’s boring after a while, and in an unmistakably positive move, both Balance and Composure and Tigers Jaw’s decision to create something together has resulted in one of Pennsylvania’s finest and most refreshing releases to date. Whilst delivering four tracks that demonstrate a maturing sound, all that Tigers Jaw lacks in this split is made up for and exceeded by the honest efforts of Balance and Composure; demonstrating their true potential to be a definitive icon of this style.

Dead Letter Circus - This is the Warning

With Dead Letter Circus cracking number two on the ARIA charts and currently in the midst of playing a string of sold out Australian shows – the future may look bright but the present appears equally as assured. Well worth a listen.

Grenadiers - Songs The Devil Taught Us

With Triple J already heavily backing the band, “Songs The Devil Taught Us” should launch the band into being one of the real forces to be reckoned within the Australian live music scene.

The Black Keys - Brothers

The Black Keys - Brothers

23.05.2010 | jackp | 0 Comments

This album delivers a warm and hearty mix of blues-rock that is spiced up by the incorporation of some new influences and the band’s desire to experiment with different genres. Like the album title suggests, they may have refined their skills separately along the way, but “Brothers” represents the duo being drawn back together much like family and subsequently harnessing this kinship to craft one of their most impressive albums yet.

As I Lay Dying - The Powerless Rise

As I Lay Dying - The Powerless Rise

20.05.2010 | Kane_H | 3 Comments

You have to admire As I Lay Dying. The band could have easily continued milking every last drop of the ‘Gothenburg’ meets ‘breakdown’ style, however what we are instead presented with is a release that suggests its initial impact will be matched by its longevity.
