Calerway - A Letter Of Credence

Calerway - A Letter Of Credence

07.02.2007 | boxhead | 0 Comments

This is far from a bad CD so if you’re into any of the previously mentioned bands, give Calerway a listen. Just don’t expect a life changing musical experience.

Frenzal Rhomb - Forever Malcolm Young

Frenzal Rhomb - Forever Malcolm Young

29.01.2007 | boxhead | 1 Comments

This CD won’t change anyone’s opinion on Frenzal Rhomb. If you hate them, you’re still going to hate them (and chances are one of the songs on here is talking about you). If you love them, you’re going to get hours of listening pleasure out of this record.

I’ll leave you with the wise words of Frenzal front man Jay:  “Johnny Ramone was in a fucken good band but he was a cunt”.

The Valley - Burning At The Mistake

If you’re looking for an easy to listen to mosh CD, then Burning At The Mistake is for you. On the other hand, if you like real metal... avoid this at all cost.

Hawthorne Heights - This Is Who We Are DVD

Hawthorne Heights - This Is Who We Are DVD

As far as band DVD’s go, Hawthorne Heights aren’t reinventing the wheel with this release, however This Is Who We Are has helped me understand why the band is so popular. Sure they write catchy, simple songs which kids can get into but I think the band’s overwhelming commitment to their fans and their ability to stay so grounded given their success makes them a group of individuals that fans can genuinely relate to. And isn’t that what’s it’s supposed to be all about?

Antiskeptic - Monuments EP

Antiskeptic - Monuments EP

It’s been said that your opinion of a vocalist will decide how much you like a band and I tend to agree with that. There is something about front man Andrew Kitchen’s voice that doesn’t give them the X factor they need to make the songs as catchy as they need to be.

After saying all that, there’s probably 5000 kids out there who disagree with me and think Antiskeptic are kings amongst men. Unfortunately this reviewer isn’t one of them.

If you’re frustrated by how pretentious indie rock can be but you find a lot of heavy music overbearing then this CD is for you.

Drop Dead, Gorgeous - In Vogue

Drop Dead, Gorgeous - In Vogue

Do yourself a favour and don’t dismiss this band as a bunch of skinny, screaming fashion kids. Ignore the press photos and put their album on (through some headphones preferably) and enjoy the sound of a young band doing their best to be creative.

Johnny Traunt - In The Library Of Horrific Events

Johnny Traunt - In The Library Of Horrific Events

The standout on this track has to be vocalist Olly. The band’s previous work was fairly one dimensional when it came to the vocal department however Olly spends 40 minutes showcasing a range of screams, growls and shrieks that would make most front men jealous. Another thing I found impressive was the use of his voice in the album’s melodic passages – no cheesy, cliché clean vocals but something more akin to what you’d find on an Isis record.

Mourning Tide - Trash N Burn

Mourning Tide - Trash N Burn

13.01.2007 | KYS-Cam | 8 Comments

As for the aesthetic aspect of the band their 80’s glam appearance just comes off as contrived. A band like Avenged Sevenfold can afford to act and look the way they do as they have the songs and the bank account to back them up. Unfortunately Mourningtide’s take on glam rock comes across as way too much of a gimmick.
