Matt Pryor - May Day

Matt Pryor - May Day

26.01.2012 | LukeC | 0 Comments

Ignoring the irony of a singer complaining about his negative feelings towards the music industry and his career on an album that was funded by his fan base, ‘May Day’ is another example of Matt Pryor’s solid song writing abilities and something that fans of any other Pryor project should enjoy.

Make Do And Mend - Part And Parcel

Make Do And Mend - Part And Parcel

24.11.2011 | Nash | 9 Comments

With ‘Part And Parcel’, Make Do And Mend have engaged in an exploration of a musical style well outside their comfort zone, reworking three fan favourites from their critically acclaimed debut album ‘End Measured Mile’ with folk and indie rock sensibilities driven by acoustic guitar chords and diverse instrumentation. The EP is a pleasing display of both the versatility of their songs, and the ever-widening scope of the band’s musical prowess.

Mayday Parade - Mayday Parade

Mayday Parade - Mayday Parade

06.11.2011 | ohaiialaska | 0 Comments

With their third full length, Mayday Parade has definitely returned to form. They have left behind all the big technical production elements that hindered their last release and have taken it back to basics, showing fans what they do best by creating a solid pop rock album full of massive hooks played out through back and forth dual vocals and upbeat instrument lines. Mayday Parade is an album that proves everything is better when you do things your own way, and that is exactly what this Florida quintet have done.

Man Overboard - Man Overboard

Man Overboard - Man Overboard

23.10.2011 | Nash | 3 Comments

On their sophomore album, Man Overboard doesn’t try to reinvent themselves and continues with the same musical ideas that brought them to the forefront of the pop punk scene in the first place. The album makes up for its lack of progression with a powerhouse of hook-driven, duelling vocal melodies, hard-hitting punchlines and consistently strong, well-paced songwriting that will engage most fans of the genre.

Mogwai - Earth Divisions EP

Mogwai - Earth Divisions EP

14.10.2011 | LukeC | 0 Comments

‘Earth Divisions’ is not the type of EP that you would necessarily want to have in the car, or on at a party, or for any reason other than to focus on and enjoy some simple yet brilliant pieces of music. It is different to the progressive rock you would expect from Mogwai but in the same regard it matches their style perfectly.

Machine Head - Unto the Locust

Machine Head - Unto the Locust

11.10.2011 | Kane_H | 0 Comments

Soundwavers might want to stock up on their fluids before Machine Head's set because if 'Unto the Locust' is anything to go by it's not going to end pretty. Machine Head show that the return to form that was 'The Blackening' was by no means a fluke. There's still some small areas of improvement but we can look the other way on those trivial things.

Maylene and the Sons of Disaster - IV

Maylene and the Sons of Disaster - IV

11.10.2011 | Kane_H | 4 Comments

'IV' is intriguing. The response and reception to this album changes with each subsequent track. At times, you feel like lauding Maylene and the Sons of Disaster. At other occasions, you feel like lamenting the band. It's this roller-coaster response that makes 'IV' slightly inconsistent. There's some decent moments on studio album number four but as a listener, you're perhaps best served isolating the best four or five tracks and sticking with them.

Mastodon - The Hunter

Mastodon - The Hunter

28.09.2011 | Kane_H | 2 Comments

It would've been easy, not to mention convenient to give Mastodon a perfect score purely because it's Mastodon. 'The Hunter' is different to its predecessor but just drives the band's appeal further. In the same way that we look back at Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath fondly for their contributions to their respective era, you get the feeling Mastodon might be talked about the same way in a few decades time.

Mariachi El Bronx - II

Mariachi El Bronx - II

19.08.2011 | LukeC | 0 Comments

Never has a band moved so far from the genre they are known for and succeeded as much as The Bronx have with their mariachi albums. Perhaps most of the appeal is in seeing a punk band doing something so different (granted not many of us think "hey I fell like playing some mariachi"), but therein lay the brilliance in exposing people to musical genres that they may otherwise miss. This record is enjoyable and the perfect example of the group's amazing musical abilities.

Mere Theory - Walking In Storms

Mere Theory - Walking In Storms

Mere Theory have more than earned their stripes and ‘Walking In Storms’ proves that they still have what it takes to not only be named one of Adelaide’s finest exports but one of the countries best rock acts.
