Mogwai - Earth Divisions EP
‘Earth Divisions’ is not the type of EP that you would necessarily want to have in the car, or on at a party, or for any reason other than to focus on and enjoy some simple yet brilliant pieces of music. It is different to the progressive rock you would expect from Mogwai but in the same regard it matches their style perfectly.

Machine Head - Unto the Locust
Soundwavers might want to stock up on their fluids before Machine Head's set because if 'Unto the Locust' is anything to go by it's not going to end pretty. Machine Head show that the return to form that was 'The Blackening' was by no means a fluke. There's still some small areas of improvement but we can look the other way on those trivial things.

Maylene and the Sons of Disaster - IV
'IV' is intriguing. The response and reception to this album changes with each subsequent track. At times, you feel like lauding Maylene and the Sons of Disaster. At other occasions, you feel like lamenting the band. It's this roller-coaster response that makes 'IV' slightly inconsistent. There's some decent moments on studio album number four but as a listener, you're perhaps best served isolating the best four or five tracks and sticking with them.

Mastodon - The Hunter
It would've been easy, not to mention convenient to give Mastodon a perfect score purely because it's Mastodon. 'The Hunter' is different to its predecessor but just drives the band's appeal further. In the same way that we look back at Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath fondly for their contributions to their respective era, you get the feeling Mastodon might be talked about the same way in a few decades time.

Mariachi El Bronx - II
Never has a band moved so far from the genre they are known for and succeeded as much as The Bronx have with their mariachi albums. Perhaps most of the appeal is in seeing a punk band doing something so different (granted not many of us think "hey I fell like playing some mariachi"), but therein lay the brilliance in exposing people to musical genres that they may otherwise miss. This record is enjoyable and the perfect example of the group's amazing musical abilities.

Mere Theory - Walking In Storms
Mere Theory have more than earned their stripes and ‘Walking In Storms’ proves that they still have what it takes to not only be named one of Adelaide’s finest exports but one of the countries best rock acts.

Man Overboard - The Human Highlight Reel
If you haven't jumped on the MOB bandwagon yet, I advise you to now. Whilst the band are working hard in studio writing for what I believe will be another solid album, they have left fans with a compilation filled with a bunch or rarities, b-sides and new material. Although a majority of the tracks are re-released or rewritten "The Human Highlight Reel" still offers a good variety of songs to new listeners and collectors.

Manchester Orchestra - Simple Math
'Simple Math' is not flawless, and arguments can be held as to where it sits in the 'best to worst' order of the band's catalogue. It seems like one of those albums that people will recognise as good upon the first listen but will eventually, years down the track, realise that it is actually brilliant and one of their finest releases.

Moving Mountains - Waves
By no means did I expect Moving Mountains to replicate ‘Pneuma,’ I just hoped their change would seem more of a unique progression. I wonder if my reaction would have been different to this record if it was released by some other band as Moving Mountains set the bar quite high for themselves with their debut and 'Waves' just doesn't seem to match up.

Memphis May Fire - The Hollow
Memphis May Fire might very well be one of the surprises of the year, so far, for me. I mean, they weren’t even on my radar a couple of days ago and yet here we are. ‘The Hollow’ is a capable, and occasionally brilliant, metal record, with big vocal melodies. They’ve delivered a record that had me pretty animated in my chair, like all ‘southern swagger’ metal should, but also hit a deeper chord at times – that interlude is an astounding track.
