Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Mosquito

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Mosquito

16.05.2013 | LukeC | 0 Comments

'Mosquito' is certainly the least energetic of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs catalogue, but this is in no way a bad thing. This is the mature version of the group, focused on using their individual elements in the simplest and most effective ways resulting in something very different for their fans.

Yellowcard - Southern Air

Yellowcard - Southern Air

19.08.2012 | ohaiialaska | 0 Comments

While Southern Air wont shock or surprise you, it is definitely going to be an album that you return to. Where WYTTSY paved a path for Yellowcard to come back on, Southern Air has proven that Yellowcard are still at the top of their game. It ensures people realise they are still a major player in the genre. It is Yellowcard doing what Yellowcard do best. That is, blurring the lines between hard-hitting pop punk and catchy, pop tunes. Equally, it shows the group's abilty to craft tracks filled with huge hooks, sunny choruses, heartfelt lyrics and upbeat tempos...only this time it's taken to a new level. While, the album might not have any exceptional highlights this isn’t a bad thing. Southern Air is a complete album from beginning to end and it doesn’t miss a beat.

Young Statues - Young Statues

Young Statues - Young Statues

01.01.2012 | ohaiialaska | 0 Comments

With their self-titled debut release, Young Statues have immediately set the standard exceptionally high. They have created a well-put together album made up of intricate layers that manage to clash and weave throughout every track. In a genre that is so tried, tested and repetitive, Young Statues have managed to create an album that brings something new and fresh to the table while still seeming comfortably familiar.  Young Statues is an album that ensures people are going to take notice. There aren’t many bands that set the bar so high on their first release.

Young English - I Hate My Friends EP

Young English - I Hate My Friends EP

28.12.2011 | LukeC | 0 Comments

Young English are a talented band who would be even more impressive if they could refine and explore the more original sounding points of their music. ‘I Hate My Friends’ is a tight EP that will do its job by catching people’s ears, but it is what the band do with their follow up full length that will be the make or break.

Yellowcard - When You're Through Thinking Say Yes Acoustic

Yellowcard - When You're Through Thinking Say Yes Acoustic

Your enjoyment of this album will depend on how you approach it, the ideal situation is obviously for those who are familiar with the original record and will know the ways in which the songs have changed. The effort that has clearly been put into this album however makes it one of the finer acoustic records ever made.

You Me At Six - Sinners Never Sleep

You Me At Six - Sinners Never Sleep

09.10.2011 | ohaiialaska | 1 Comments

The bounce and bop that propelled You Me At Six into the pop punk stratosphere with their previous releases has all but been forgotten. In it’s place stands the band that created Sinners Never Sleep, a band who sound a lot fuller, have gotten a lot angrier-and dare I say it- have done a lot of growing up. Teetering on the edge of destruction (refer to ‘Bite My Tongue’), You Me At Six were able to turn things around and through their survival they managed to write and produce what could very well be their best material to date.

You, Me, And Everyone We Know - Things Are Really Weird Right Now

You, Me, And Everyone We Know - Things Are Really Weird Right Now

For a band that’s just left us, this EP would be one hell of a way to go out. It’s creative, intelligent and so fun. If Liebsch can manage to pull together another line-up, I hope they don’t manage to lose that special something that made this release so great. If you’re a fan of almost fun, almost pretentious, pop-rock, not unlike Panic, then this band has a lot to offer you.

Young Guns - All Our Kings Are Dead

Young Guns - All Our Kings Are Dead

Young Guns are a strong pillar, and one of the better, in the new wave of British bands who seem intent on bringing back the type of heavy rock music that has mainstream appeal.

Yellowcard - When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes

Yellowcard - When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes

04.03.2011 | maddo | 1 Comments

Yellowcard have proved that the two-year hiatus was worth it, as “When You’re Through Thinking, Say Yes” is the band’s strongest, and most well rounded album since “Ocean Avenue”. I’m sure many people will be doubting the band and wonder what relevance they hold in 2011, but the this album is good enough to prove them wrong, and launch Yellowcard back into being pop punk heroes worldwide.

Your Demise - The Kids We Used To Be

Your Demise - The Kids We Used To Be

10.11.2010 | jem | 0 Comments

Through their latest release, ‘The Kids We Used To Be’ Your Demise have offered a few new colours to their heavy-hardcore palette in exploring the winding path they’ve taken to this stage. What these rising UK giants have produced is a fun, sometimes catchy and overall, energetic album which attests to the sound they have defined themselves throughout the world with. However, whilst progress is achieved in the melodic aspects of this heavy CD, little to nothing innovative is really done with this sound, a large flaw that most significantly lets this album down. I guess we can positively say that at least this one didn’t have dubstep.
