Alesana - On Frail Wings Of Vanity And Wax
“Alesana” are sure to attract
their fare share of critics, but at least they’re trying to put their
own spin on a genre which is rapidly losing all credibility. While this
record may not appeal to everyone, they get an “A” for effort. If
the band focused more on the melodic aspect of their song writing, rather
than the weak sounding breakdowns, their next record could be something
special.

The Hot Lies - Emergency! Emergency! (Single)
When your band is peddling “by
the numbers” pop rock, your vocalist better have something special
up his/her sleeve. Unfortunately for “The Hot Lies”, they just don’t
have it.

Rosetta - The Galilean Satellites
If you’re looking to purchase
some background music, then this record isn’t for you. If however
you’re looking for an album which might require some attention, this
is for you!

Paramore - Riot!
“Riot!” is one of the most
enjoyable records I’ve received this year. If you’re not a fan of
sugary pop punk then Paramore aren't going to make a convert of you,
but if you want to listen to something that’s fun and doesn’t require
too much effort to get into, then you’ll definitely get something
out of this record.

The Burning Season - Onward Anthem
Unfortunately, TBS still feel
the need to dabble in the mosh game. Just when I’m really starting
to get into “Onward Anthem” along comes an unnecessary breakdown.
If they stopped giving a shit about writing songs which will get kids
in the pit excited, then The Burning Season could develop into
a really good band – as opposed to an average metalcore band.
I’ll definitely be keeping my
eye on The Burning Season from here on in. They’ve got the potential
to write a really great record – here’s hoping they do it!
Props to the lead guitarist as
well, the guy can fucking wail!

Hopesfall - Magnetic North
As I mentioned earlier, there
is still a lot to like about Magnetic North, but if you’re expecting
epic, ambient rock then you’d better look somewhere else. If on the
other hand, you can’t wait for the Deftones to release another album
then give Magnetic North a go.

Every Time I Die - The Big Dirty
If you’re a fan of Every Time
I Die then I have no doubt that you will love this record – the riffs
are flawless, the drumming is amazing as usual and Keith Buckley’s
lyrics are rife with the sarcastic social commentary that we’ve come
to love. Album of the year contender for sure!

The Unseen - Internal Salvation
Great record from a band of genuinely nice guys and I’m looking forward to another trip down under! With the band appearing on the 2007 US Warped Tour I can’t see any reason why The Unseen can’t achieve the same level of popularity as a band like Against Me.

Bring Me The Horizon - Count Your Blessings
The annoying thing about this
record is that these guys clearly have some potential. If they ditched
their over used mosh parts – seriously, Unearth could sue for breach
of copyright - and stopped caring about their appearance so much (go
to www.myspace.com/dropdeadclothin
After saying all that, this band
is fucking huge in Europe and will no doubt become a hit down here as
well, but for those of you who want to see a metal band and not a fashion
show, go and buy an Arsis record already!

The Dear Hunter - Act I – The Lake South, The River North
Giving a blow by blow account of each track wouldn’t do this EP justice - it needs to be listened to as a whole. The Dear Hunter now have a full line up and a new record which I plan on picking up shortly, and I can only hope a tour down under is on the cards!
