Sing It Loud - Come Around

Sing It Loud - Come Around

10.11.2008 | KYS-Cam | 1 Comments

There’s definitely a few filler tracks on offer here, however taking into account the band’s age (average of nineteen) and the fact that this is their first legitimate release I think it’s safe to say that we’ll be hearing a lot more from the Sing It Loud camp over the next few years.

Mary Jane Kelly - Our Streets Turn White

Mary Jane Kelly - Our Streets Turn White

10.11.2008 | Jimmy | 3 Comments

A lot of punk and hardcore bands have a somewhat limited appeal when it comes to making a grab for fans outside of the aforementioned genres, however Mary Jane Kelly have both the technical chops and live show to reach a much broader audience. Be sure to see the band on tour with The Abandonment in October and November.

Unwritten Law - Live and Lawless CD/DVD

Unwritten Law - Live and Lawless CD/DVD

31.10.2008 | jess | 2 Comments

Unwritten Law are one of my favourite bands and I hate to sound biased but I enjoyed this album. Even though my boyfriend through my copy out the car window (The CD may have been on rotation on our trip form Melbourne to Sydney …and back), I loved Live and Lawless and say kudos to UL for raising the bar, performance wise.  It possibly may just be a fans only kinda thing seeing as the songs are just live versions of the last three albums. The DVD is also worth a look, it has a couple of bonus tracks (“Elva”, “Shallow” and a couple more) interviews and videos worthy of a look.

Bleeding Through - Declaration

Bleeding Through - Declaration

31.10.2008 | bennyt | 3 Comments

A solid effort that shows Bleeding Through honing their songwriting abilities. At just under 50min it is an ideal length for heavy metal release, though tracks towards the latter half of the disc don’t tend to exhibit the same sort of consistency. Keyboard touches by Marta Peterson add a dark element to the music that should help extend the songs longevity.

Some decent quality material here, but the albums progression toward slower material lets it down!

Safe Hands - Against the Wrecking Ball

Safe Hands - Against the Wrecking Ball

31.10.2008 | dave | 0 Comments

Safe Hands can be proud of what they have done with "Against the Wrecking Ball", which is a very worthwhile listen. The band have shown they are not content with just making safe hardcore. Rather, they made something interesting to listen to, which is a quality shown by few these days. This EP proves that there is plenty more ammunition in this Newcastle band's armoury. I will definitely be keeping an eye on Safe Hands from now on.

Bring Me the Horizon - Suicide Season

Bring Me the Horizon - Suicide Season

24.10.2008 | allshallperish | 10 Comments

Suicide Season is one cd you desperate to hate but just can’t help but love.  It’s one of the most infectious records I have encountered in quite a while and hope to never encounter again.  A lot of ground seems to have been gained by the recent “Say Goodbye” tour and with the release of this record the future of Bring Me the Horizon is looking significantly more promising than it did 18 months ago.

The Amity Affliction - Severed Ties

The Amity Affliction - Severed Ties

Apart from the aforementioned cover selection, Severed Ties is a fantastic record, one that puts many of The Amity Affliction’s US counterparts to shame. Having debuted at number twenty-six in the Aria charts, it won’t be long before these guys are no longer our little secret.

All That Remains - Overcome

All That Remains - Overcome

It sounds like I’ve just thrashed the shit out Overcome in the first two paragraphs of the review but it’s a solid release and there are several moments that will put you back in your chair in amazement.  The clean singing isn’t overdone and at least the guitar players know have to write a decent tune which sets All That Remains a good pace ahead of a lot of the other bands plaguing this genre.

Cold World - Dedicated To Babies Who Came Feet First

Cold World - Dedicated To Babies Who Came Feet First

22.10.2008 | KYS-Cam | 0 Comments

I’m not sure how relevant Cold World are in today’s constantly changing hardcore landscape, but as I mentioned previously, if you’re after something a little different (and you can overlook the cheesy musical references) then you’ll definitely get a few spins out of this release.
