Katatonia - Night is the New Day

Katatonia - Night is the New Day

23.12.2009 | backsideslappy | 3 Comments

Michael Akerfeldt’s shining endorsement of this album as “godly” should be enough to inspire listeners to pick it up and give it a listen. If not, then the high degree of diligence and considered creativity poured into this record and the rare capacity to transcend the boundaries of exclusivity around the Swedish metal scene should make this album a must-have.

Kottonmouth Kings - Hidden Stash 420

If you like Kottonmouth Kings then ‘Hidden Stash 420’ gives you no reason to jump ship (even though this sound for all intents and purposes appeared to die with cargo pants and razor scooters at the start of the 21st century). However, anyone else is likely to have pressed stop by about track seven.

Kiss - Sonic Boom

Kiss - Sonic Boom

Not too shabby, but certainly not the genre’s most outstanding effort either – just neatly somewhere in between. Kiss may be better known for their make-up and outspoken individual personalities however; they do display an astute level of musical proficiency on ‘Sonic Boom’.

Killswitch Engage - Killswitch Engage

Killswitch Engage’s second eponymous release is the equal of any previous efforts. Heavy, melodic, fast and slow – the album blends all aspects of the music spectrum effectively into forty minutes of solid metal.
