Basement - Colourmeinkindness

Basement - Colourmeinkindness

13.12.2012 | maddo | 0 Comments

Although it is sad to think that this is the last recorded material we may ever hear from Basement, it is certain that this record will leave a lasting impression. The band has always been honest with the way they have approached everything and always done things on their own terms, and this record is no different. The record is another solid addition to their already impressive catalogue, and one that should not be ignored.

Crown The Empire - The Fallout

Crown The Empire - The Fallout

10.12.2012 | LukeC | 0 Comments

Granted this is the band's label debut so in some ways they want to play it safe and keep the "fans of the genre" happy, but this approach is tired and ineffective these days. There are enough moments of originality here to say that Crown The Empire are worth checking out, but they are countered by as many generic parts which make this album just short of something great.

War from a Harlots Mouth - Voyeur

War from a Harlots Mouth - Voyeur

The more competent you are, the more sternly you are graded. It might be perceived as unfair but that is often the reality. War from a Harlots Mouth develop with ‘Voyeur’. It’s decent and passes in most areas. The full-length just doesn’t offer as much impact as perhaps is expected.

Bad Brains - Into The Future

Bad Brains - Into The Future

08.12.2012 | BENJAMIN.MUIR | 0 Comments

Normally a longer review would be necessary, but there’s no need for more indulgent and excessive words – ‘Into the Future’ is thoroughly impressive. Regardless of lineup changes, religion and God knows what else has befallen Bad Brains since the beginning of their career; they've pulled through with both their musical productivity and integrity intact. Highly recommended.

I Am Abomination - Let The Future Tell The Truth

I Am Abomination - Let The Future Tell The Truth

08.12.2012 | BENJAMIN.MUIR | 0 Comments

Regardless of genre labelling, this is a mediocre album. I Am Abomination's technical ability is impressive, but their songwriting does not match. The band has no end of potential, but the album just went by in a blur.
However, if you like Protest The Hero and all your songs sounding the same, by all means check out I Am Abomination.

Crystal Castles - III

Crystal Castles - III

05.12.2012 | jackp | 0 Comments

III sounds rigid and calculated in comparison to past efforts, giving it a generally tired and predictable aftertaste. It’s hard to tag Crystal Castles as ‘experimental’ anymore when they’re content with churning out run-of-the-mill dance floor ditties like everyone else. A disappointing effort.

Safe Hands/Vanity - Split 7"

This east meets west split release is a great way to check out some new local hardcore that you may not have heard of whilst also being a nice taste of what both bands may have in store for their upcoming full lengths.

Jamie Hay - King Of The Sun

Jamie Hay - King Of The Sun

03.12.2012 | Natasha | 0 Comments

There’s nothing contrived about Jamie Hay or his debut full length, King of the Sun. He isn’t self-indulgent with his talent, yet the intricacies in his vocal melodies and musicianship are more noticeable with every listen, and despite the sombre nature of the record, Hay has a comforting presence that makes each of his beautifully crafted songs relatable.

Machine Head - Machine Fucking Head Live

A powerful band demands a powerful album, right? 'Machine Fucking Head' captures the band's spirit. It's well-presented. Perhaps that is enough here?

The Swellers - Running Out Of Places To Go

The Swellers - Running Out Of Places To Go

02.12.2012 | brodie_dg | 0 Comments

I take it with great sincerity when The Swellers belt out lyrics like “I miss my bed, but I can’t remember how it feels compared to yours, or any other, but thank you for letting me into your home.” The message is clear, but what shines through in their exhausted efforts and their independent debut, The Swellers wouldn't trade it for anything.
